Xperia z3 compact Losing mobile data connection

Hi,

I recently received my sony xperia z3 compact and have noticed that after it has been connected to wifi for a long time and then goes out of wifi range it doesnt seem to automatically revert to mobile data and the only wat to get it back seem to be to restart my phone? Im on the 3 network, does anyone else have this issue or know if its related to phone or network or have a fix?

I had the same issue and had to send the phone back for a refund. Also on Three UK funnily enough. My issue seemed to be related to using Bluetooth. Such a shame as I loved the phone.

Did anyone find a solution (apart from sending the phone back) to this issue?

Issue:

Mobile data signal is lost and does not return unless phone is shutdown or restarted

Background:

Sony Xperia Z3 compact

Three mobile network

long train commute each day (where the issue occurs most frequently)

stamina mode is off

So far i have tried the following:

turned off Wi-Fi - no difference mobile data signal will be lost and not return at least once per day
turned off Bluetooth - no difference
turned off 4g - no difference
changed 'preferred network mode' to WCDMA only - Managed to get three days without the issue occurring

Anyone else had the problem or any kind of resolution?

Pete,

Thats pretty much the same as me. I noticed it mainly on the train never had good reception on the train with previous Iphone 5 due to network but definitely seems to be more of an issue with the sony I hope its just a network related issue or software update required and not the phone!! Have you managed to find out anythng further, I dont know if this is an issue known to Sony or three??

Hi Mark,

I raised a support ticket with Sony. They have advised that they suspect it is the phone. Suggested steps for fix are to run a PC Companion repair on the phone. As that is a destructive process I'm not sure this is a good idea as 5.0 lollipop is out very soon. So i think I will wait for the 5.0 update before trying to fix mine (assuming that the issue is related to the phone's software as suggested by Sony)

Yesterday however it cut the mobile data connection 5 times on the way home! Luckily the Z3 compact restarts quite quickly.....

I will update if i have any further progress as I am not keen on getting rid of this handset or my tariff with three.

If you get anywhere please let me know.

Pete, I ran a repair on mine and it didn't make a difference so I think waiting for a firmware update is definitely the best bet.

I am on Three with the 5833 model compact.I have not had the data drop off but quite often will not fire up when out of wifi range.I then have to restart to recover the data connection as mentioned.

Thanks for the responses everybody. Hopefully the upgrade to 5.0 will resolve these issues (if they are related to the handset and not the network).

I will of course keep this thread updated with progress. If anyone else gets anywhere with this issue please post here so we keep the thread going.

I'm also having this issue with my s3 compact right now. I'm also on a train in the uk and am on Three. I was using tethering at the time it stopped working.

XperiaBlog is reporting a new update for the Z3C, 23.0.1.A.5.77.

If it fixes this issue, please report it here. I really miss my Z3C and would probably buy one again if I know this issue is addressed.

I have also seen this problem on my Z3 compact and am also on three. I got the phone 3 weeks ago and it's happened twice have tried switching off on mobile data, airplane mode on off but only fix is power off then on. Have been using phone is Stamina mode maybe I should see if the problem occurs with Stamina off. Keeping an eye on it for now hopefully it's not going to get worse as it's a brilliant phone.

I'm glad I made saw this thread! I had to sign up for an account to post. Exact same problem here, had the phone about a week, on three in the UK. Keep losing LTE randomly throughout the day and have to restart the phone.

Does anybody know if the problem is three the phone or Sony software? The only people who appear to be having this problem are on three.

Have you seen the problem with LTE off? I leave LTE off as there is no 4G coverage where I live in addition it doesn't drop back to 3G when there is no 4G signal, switching 4G off restores data. I haven't figured out if the issue is wifi to cell or cell to cell switching or both as have tried moving in and out of range of my home router, switching wifi on/off. A drive last night into central London the connection stayed up all the time (3hours). It does appear to be random. Anyone not on Three seeing this?

I have a standard size z3, not the compact and am in the UK and have similar issues as described above.

I am on Ee, upgrading from tmobile to then a couple of months ago getting the z3 from a Samsung.

Coverage was generally good in most places when I was on tmobile and the coverage should be the same on Ee where they are the same company.

I have however noticed that my data connection is somewhat temperamental and randomly disappears, sometimes needing the phone to be rebooted, with sometimes that not even working.

I don't use stamina mode so I know it isnt that, and in numerous calls to Ee including a sim swap they say it isn't a network issue, and just said I could try sending the phone for repair which I don't really want to do as it would mean being without a phone dor ages, and I am not convinced this will sort the issue as from reading this thread, it sounds as if it could be software based as the two phones seem to have the same firmware builds.

The area I live has never had 4g however the masts appear to be just being upgraded as I am picking up a low signal of 4g in some places, but it doesn't seem to have been switched on properly yet. I have however noticed this in Southampton as well tho, a city with good 4g coverage as well as London. I would lose my data connection completely, still having full signal shown, yet my work colleague with an iPhone but also Ee was sat there with 4g. This makes me think it is like sommented above something to do qith hiw the phone switches between 2,3 and 4g as It obciously doesn't make any difference what network the phomes are on.

It would be interesting for someone from Sony to confirm if this is in the changes whe the new firware is releases everywhere, or if it is an issue they are aware of.

Z3 Compact looses Data when in Call , no VOLTE

Hello,

I have bought the Z3 Compact, its a fabulous phone but some functionality are not working

Service provider : T-Mobile

Location : Dallas (VOLTE is live)

Issue 1 : when i am in a call (calling or receiving) the data drops.

Issue 2: the "VOLTE" is not enabled. I have been told there is a software/ firmware that needs to be deployed... Sony needs to deploy the patch to get this working.

I have put my new t-mob sim into a IPHONE and the VOLTE works fine. when I put this into the Z3C it does not work. I am unable to use data when in a call.

T-Mobile engineers states the network is fine

I have been bounced around from Sony to T-mobile.

Sony state the last time I called there is an issue with the data dropping and the issue has escalted to upper management. Whats the ETA?

anyone having the same issue?

I have been experiancing the same problem with a Z3 on Three.

I may have found a fix by disabling data roaming. (Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks -> Data Roaming -> Off).

The default setting seems to be national roaming which we dont have in the UK, however somehting about the Three network seems to trigger is occasionally, on my HTC One I used to see the roaming icon occasionally, however the Z3 data connection doesnt seem to recover from this without a reboot.

I have had no problems for about a week now and used to happen a few times per day.

I would be intrested to know if this works for anyone else.

I've been having the same issue on and off since I got the phone last year.

I bought it unlocked but I also use it on 3.

First noticed it when I was switching off the wifi to go onto Mobile Data - the data acted liked it was switched off. No amount of fiddling would bring it back on - had to restart the phone.

More recently I've noticed it doing it without any wifi switching. I'll check my phone and there's no mobile data connection, even though if I restart it, the connection works fine.

I live in Manchester (where I usualyy get a decent 4G signal) but frequently work in Sheffield (where the 4G signal isn't as good) and find it tends to drop out more in Sheffield.

I use it with stamina mode but I still allow my work email to be always connected.

I'll try switching the data roaming to off and see if that does the trick.

Yeah well that didn't work either.

I've tried Data Roaming on National, Data Roaming Off and now I'm trying Data Roaming on International but I'm not holding my breath.
