Maximum video record length to SD?

Hey, quick question - If i buy a 64gb SD card and set my video camera to use that memory will the camera keep recording until it is full? Or does it shut off after a specified time?

I think it should stop after it reaches the maximum file size for a FAT32 file system.

64gb sd card will be formatted as exFAT.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT for the maximum file size.

exFat is not limited as fat32.

It depends of course on what microSD and what format you have selected for it. I have a 32GB and it is in FAT32.

The default file system of Xperia Z1 for SD cards larger than 32GB is exFAT.
For 32GB and lower than that, default file system is FAT32 (see https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/capacity/index.html)
My 64GB sd card is formatted by phone as exFAT and has no 4GB limitation for files like FAT32.
Video recording will continue uninterrupted even though the size of the file exceeds 4GB.
The longest video I personally shot lasted over an hour. File size was nearly 9GB.
The FAT32 length of the video recording can be a maximum as about half an hour (close to 4GB).
After that, the recording stops automatically.

One more thing : there is always the where the device might overheat due to recording for so long,so in this case you might not get the max length for a video because the camera app will stop by itself.

Well whatever you come up with you can double it as I have 128GB SD card in the Z1 and no problems.

Obviously these specs were designed before the 128GB card was available so they usually say 64 or 32.

Also put a 128GB in a Samsung Galaxy S5 without problems
