If a phone can't withstand the pressure in a pocket them it clearly isn't designed to be an everyday phone
And no, neither am I overweight nor do I wear those ridiculous skinny jeans, it was in a loose pocket and I didn't bump into anything. I'm not quite at the 'thighs of steel' level either.

z3v cracked after less than 30 days

This is just a documentation of my 29 day old z3v cracking while sitting on a sony wireless charger overnight. I'll be posting pictures before i wrap it up and send it to sony of each corner of the phone (like brand new) and the front (like brand new) and the back with one random crack on it. Verizon refuses to man up and replace it and Sony wants to inspect before fixing under warranty. I guess we'll see.

It would seem to be a ton of people have this problem the sony Z line of products, so why can't Sony recognize it?? I bought a waterproof phone for a reason and if it cracks randomly how can i trust it under water?

The other kicker is i have to live without my phone, that i use for work, for 3 + weeks? Really Sony? I want you to do that to your executives and see if it flys. Props to Verizon for providing a replacement phone but if i dont get this one back within 90 days i eat the cost of a brand new phone. Its no wonder you haven't entered this market until recently, you have NO IDEA WHAT PEOPLE WANT OR NEED from a customer service standpoint when it comes to mobile devices.

Great phone, poor glass choice and poor support, at least so far.

Thanks, i have already contacted them and I'll be sending this back as soon as i get my replacement from Verizon. Seeing as this is apparently wide spread i thought i'd add my issue.

http://www.nextpowerup.com/news/5204/own-an-xperia-z-with-a-cracked-glass-sony-might-repair-it-for-free.html

This forum post states Sony is aware of the problem and they list out what types of cracks they'll cover, any chance you are aware of that or know where to find these specifics?

I wouldn't believe that forum, you will find a lot of posts here saying something like the screen cracked on it's own, or I had it in my pocket and it cracked, also if you check other brands, cracked screens its one of the top if not the number one issue with smartphone repairs, more so with bigger screens.

Actually, thinking about this again, you state that you were charging your Z3 wirelessly, meaning it must have been in a WCR14 case.
Any chance it got too hot? Could it have cracked putting it in the case?

To address a few questions;

Yes that post is from 11/13 before the Z3 release, however its relevant as the Z2 design and Z3 design are very similar and there are later posts of Z3s with cracked screens almost identical to my cracked screen. I'll post a picture tomorrow after i recieve my replacment.

I don't use a case with my Z3 at this time so if it did over heat while using a sony wireless charger and my sony xperia z3 then we are talking about a completely different design flaw. I've never broken a phone and prefer not to use a case, i usually stick with some kind of z-shield however i haven't applied it yet.

I still feel like this post is relevant and will document my return process for a phone that seemingly broke on its own. Something that multiple people are reporting in the thread i linked that mentions the Z, Z2 and Z3 & Z3v.

I guess you're a lucky one then huh, because a quick google search and looking at comments section of any Z related article or forum reveals a multitude of problems and people familiar with the issue just from researching the phone prior to purchase. I'm not bashing the Xperia here, I'm not even bashing Sony at this point. I'm simply documenting my return process and my single crack that sporadically appeared during charging.

Here is T-Mobile FULLY ADMITTING the Z has issues and describing what should and shouldnt be covered by Sony. I wish mine didnt have issues, I love it. My wifes hasn't had any problems (she has the white one) but thats not to say she won't at some point.

https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-10500

There's no such thing as luck, the topic is the Xperia Z3V not the Z, Z1 Compact, Z2, Z2s, Z3, Z3 Compact nor the Z series tablets.

Second, I had put my Xperias through a lot w/o a protective case, just a protective film, through water, heat, cold, sand/dust, falls, etc they haven't cracked, with that said, it doesn't mean that my devices are indestructible, of course you will find few scratches here and there, and if someone drop their device there are myriad factors that could crack or not the screen, of course you will see people complaining about their cracked screens, who will go to a support forum to say, hey so I dropped my phone and it didn't cracked; it just doesn't happen.

As for screen cracking out of nowhere, it just impossible, some external force has to be applied to crack the screen, the other option is if the phone was already dropped multiple times or just one time on just the right angle and surface, or sitting repeatedly on the phone, could create micro cracks and exposing the phone to drastic changes of temperature could crack it just like any other glass.

Also keep in mind the size of the screen, check other brands that have smartphones with a screen with a similar size and check their support forum, you will find something similar. you can also check old forum posts on the iphone 4 and 4s

Just another one to add to the mix. Got my z3 on the Sunday. On the Tuesday put it into my pocket totally fine, took it out five minutes later with a hairline crack on the screen under the glass just by the phone jack. Initially just a few mils, now all the way across. Half the screen exhibiting discolouration. No loss in touch functionality at least. Three aren't interested in lifting a finger, don't hold out much hope for the repair service either. Clearly I keep bricks in my pocket or something.

Not necessarily, it could be a lot of pressure on your pockets and that cracked the screen; another possibility is that perhaps you had it on your pocket and you bumped into something hitting the screen.

If you keep in your pocket and something hit your pocket, you might not be aware of it but that could cause the crack, perhaps the edge of a table, a door, etc. post a picture of your phone, I'm certain we can pinpoint the area of impact that cause the crack, all in all, contact your local Xperia Care, regarding the cracked screen and/or your thoughts on the design and if you get some extra time, check the other forums (other brands).

Racked my brain on how it could have happened then i remembered a woman bumped into me with her trolley, not hard but enough for me to notice.......so it goes to show that things can happen & you dont realise or register it at the time.......suffice to say i wasn't happy

I want to amend what I said earlier, I had only one Xperia that I did cracked the screen, it was my Xperia X10, I had my keys and my phone in the same pocket, I put a pressure on my leg, it cracked the screen as the keychain was directly on the screen.
