Thanks for the suggestions but Sony doesn't mention anywhere that their handsets only work with Sony branded headphones.

Anyway I found another topic, they use an STH-30 and have exactly the same problem. No solution whatsoever...

/t5/Xperia-Z1-Z1s/Headset-volume-down-key-problem-with-STH30/td-p/689083

Headphone button bug

Hi all!

I have recently bought a Z1C and pretty happy with it. There is a problem with the headphones (AKG Y-40) buttons, at least with how they work.
It clearly seems like a software problem.
While the headphone is connected via the 3,5mm jack the volume down button takes the volume down to zero, like i keep pressing it. After this none of the buttons work unless I reconnect the headphone or press the phone's volume buttons. Volume up and play/stop works great though until i decide to lower the volume. And the reason for believing it to be software related is that it only happens when a music player (any) is on screen or the screen is off. All buttons work fine when the android desktop is shown, even while playing music. Any ideas?

Does this happen when you are on a call? I think its a compatibility issue rather than software

Thanks for replying.
No, just tried it and the headset function works great. Volume buttons too. It only misbehaves while an audio player is in the foreground (on screen) or when the device's screen is off and locked. And obviously this is the way i carry it in my pocket

Does this happen with walkman or another music player?

Try this:

settings > apps > smartconnect > clear data > check again

I will definitely try the ones supplied with the handset once I get home in an hour or so. Also I have a pair of Sony BT headphones. I'm curious.

If you experience the same problem with Sony's headphones then you must stop by your local Xperia Care

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

Haha, the supplied earphones have no vol button. Just one that's for answering calls or play/stop music. Bummer.

I hope I'll be able to find someone else with a headset.

If possible test other headphones, if you want to invest on Sony headphones perhaps this or this, I have the second option and they are just amazing
