Put it this way - There are probably or have been hundreds of thousands of these devices been sold and on here or around the net you see about a handful of people reporting issues, Some of these so called self cracking screen are because of the owner putting the phone in their back pocket and sitting on it then saying oh my screen cracked on it's own, I have the Z1 and Z Ultra and have no issues at all - A lot of these owners also place their phones in cases and when they want to remove their phone from said case then some force has probably been used and that will cause the screen to break because they have bent their phone - There are plenty of cases out there that don't require force - Just remember people will come up with the greatest excuses to deny their blame

When we look closely you'll see the crack came from the charging port, so I would be more than 80% sure it was dropped with the usb cable connected... There is no other way to do that as mainboard is above NFC logo in the middle of the cover panel, in this situation the crack came from the USB port (steel) which doesn't bent from temperature this much to make the panel break.
The panels are too elastic to just crack in pocket, you can try yourself in any RTV/mobile shop with Z2's showed for customers.

Hello dear forum legend,

Please do no not confuse the guy that asked a question.

Sony Xperia Z's do crack (Z,Z1, and also Z2)

I have a picture of mine here which cracked after 1 month of use

I would also like to add that I did not sit on it or drop it not even once (if it would have suffered shocks the crack would have had shards and would be similar to a spider web, with cracks radiating from the point of impact, not in a single almost perfectly right line without any shards)

The potential buyer might want to know that my case is not even singular (some more pics gathered from the internet)

The simple matter of the fact is that while some other manufacturers might recognize the pattern i have outlined with my montage, SONY does not! And so any attempt to get your phone repaired under warranty is futile. What is more, the good guys at SONY will also void your warranty, so should any other defects appear after you repaired the screen with your own money, the warranty will not cover them...

So, to the guy who wanted to know if he should buy an xperia z:

- They are great phones while they work

- Fingers crossed you won't experience de display issue (odds should be in your favor)

100 percent agree. do not buy the phone. i had my phone placed on the dashboard of car. and when i had to use it. there was a crack on screen. it was a most strange thing . i have ever seen with a smartphone. I search for reason and find out heat is issue. I live in Sweden and we use heaters in car in this time of year. it has been three 5 days i bought it new. the phone screen crack without even in use or falling. so not only 4k videos. anykind of heat would break screen. so guys if u gonna buy it do not buy it and if you have bought it. do not watch hot content on phone

I started searching how did it happen and it was not hard to find the reason.I search for the reason on web and find out that heat issue and recognize. I had my heater on as usuall for all mobiles

no reason has been published by Sony yet. so I decided to look for the reason. I have come to a conclusion which is

the problem is caused by neither 4k nor heat generated by the mobile alone. the reason is its design. its exciting features are actually the reason of it. you could certainly combine diffrent features but there are some limits for everything.the mobile is waterproof. and it has glas front and back. and it has a quadracore processor. everyone knows glass is a poor conductor of heat. now with such high speed processor and other functions like 4k. generation of heat is normal but the heat cannot be descipated from the mobile as in normal smart phone. since the glass resist the transfer of heat.

since the mobile is waterproof and when all the flaps are closed. the air inside the compartment started to expand and get no place to escape from the device. resulting in increase of pressure inside the device. and at a certain pressure it just form a crack in either the front or rear glas and escape.

it could be probably fixed by a metal back or taking back the claim of waterproofing and leave some port open so that the air had a place to escape. or some other way of heat exchange.

I will be waiting for a reply from Sony. hope the answer would be based on researh not like their product being launched without research.
