Is it the same as resetting the phone in settings? It will clear off all my files. Am I right? Is it the only way of fixing my phone?

For about a month I have a problem with my phone Xperia Z. Sometimes when I call to somebody I can't hear anything. I can't even hear the tones before a connection. I tried the tests with the code *#*#7378423#*#* to check efficiency of the speakers but everything was fine. For about four calls everything was fine too but then it turned wrong again. My assumption is that the speaker has a problem only during calls. So I checked the app Smart Connect too. I cleared data but nothing has changed. I tried to switch it off but it helped only for few calls, then it was wrong again. I don't know what to do. Please help me. Maybe there is another way to solve the problem. I will be grateful for your help.

Try performing a system repair using Pc Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

ok, so maybe I'll try your way, but perhaps there is another solution without erasing all data. I am a little bit concerned. I need another option.

Hi Unikam,

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Have you tried booting the device in to Safemode?

Safemode instructions

if the issue is not showing within Safemode, then it is likely caused by third party apps on the device. If so then following Thommos instructions would be best.

I hope this helps.

Dear All,

I`m a new memebr of community. I would like to say I have the same problem as unikam. I have my theory, but problem is not solved yet. I have already done factory reset using PC Companion (but without volume up and power button thing, only repair mode in PC Companion) and after that everything was great. I made several calls to test my phone and it ended with success. When I intalled all my google apps there was also fine. I think there is a problem with Bluetooth. I connect my Sony Xperia Z with wireless headphones (Bose around-ear SoundLink Bluetooth) and radio in my car (Sony XAV-602BT) on daily basis. Never had problems with these devices. So when I e.g. connect with Sony XAV, sound of a call receiver is directed to Bleutooth so that I can hear it in car speakers. When I go out of my car the sound of a call receiver is supposed to be directed back to smartphone - and that is a problem. It seems to be still directed to Bluetooth. The same situation with Bose headphones. However when I switch my Xperia Z off and turn on again it should be fine. Unfortunately usually it is not and that is the point where my theory collapse. The same with switching Bluetooth mode off.

I thought it is the fault of Sony App Remote, but nothing changed after exiting the app.

The most interesting thing is that the problem appears and disappears with no specified pattern.
