This is really annoying as you can't control volume while the ringer volume control is activated. You have to wait for it to switch. Is there a way around this?

If you watch a video and want to reduce the volume, you press the volume control on the right of the phone and you have to wait for it to switch from ringer volume to phone volume before it will work. This.means I have to sit through seconds of video at the wrong volume as the phone has only one control for both functions

All phones are like this. I have never seen a phone with 2 sets of volume controls. If you're rooted, you can always use xposed (with a mod) to enable expanded volume controls. That way at any time, when you press a volume button, you can expand it manually or automatically and find your desired setting.

I didn't have this problem with a delayed response on previous phones. Imagine sitting at work, someone sends you a youtube video and you can't reduce volume until the video is running for a few seconds. It's irritating

I'm sure there's an app in the play store that will allow you to quickly adjust the media playback volume without having to play the media first.
