Sony Vaio laptop internet connection problems

My laptop has been on the fritz with it's internet connection for past week. I cannot connect to any internet routers, wireless or wired. Troubleshooting does not read any problems, but my laptop cannot detect any wireless connections, and wired connections aren't read either. I have not changed any settings, and the laptop is practically brand new, there is no malicious software on it.
