I am not saying I know about the phone I am just saying what I know about it so far and being logical. All phones have issues, the way I see this is that it is most likely more water resistant for most phones, maybe its not great at doing what it is supposed to do but sure it would endure more water than most normal phones would.

Like an iPhone for example, if that were to be submerged in a small amount of water then it would most likely destroy it from the inside. For phones like the Z1C it would most likely manage to deal with it and carry on.

I have recently ordered the Xperia Z1 Compact from the EE shop and I thought this would be the best place to ask a few questions concerning it.

My first question is how durable is the phone itself? Will I need a case to keep it safe from every day activites or will it be fine by itself? I am not getting insurance on it so I won't it to be as safe as it can be.

My second question is which software willbe on the phone? I've heard that EE has held back the update but I expect someone here will know whether or not it is available or not for the network and device

If anyone could also tell me what their opinions on the phone is

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I would suggest you look around this forum to see if you want to change your order! The phone is not as good as the Sony media machine would have us believe. Certainly not waterproof and not the best camera around. Lots of issues, both hardware and software.

You should get a screen and back protection!

The Anti Shatter Film on both sides gets scratches pretty easily. And if you remove the ASF you loose your warranty.

The devices are water resistant, they are able to go up to 1 m under water and 30 minutes. But that is the most extreme case, usually you can use it in a rain or just a quick underwater photo shoot.

My one wasn't water resistant, I took it in the swimming pool, dipped it just under the surface to take a photo and it's broken. I also had the self cracking screen issue, put the phone down, picked it up again and the screen was cracked.

Is it basically not really waterproof at all besides simple splashes onto the phone? That is not an issue for me as it is still more waterproof than most phones but it would be nice for Sony to state that themselves instead of mis-informing us.

Unfortunately it's a big issue for me as I'm around water a lot, hence why a phone that "been designed for you to enjoy where ever you go" sounded perfect. Unfortunately it didn't even cope with being on the kitchen table nevermind anywhere wet

Could this be just on a few phones that the phone has not be sealed properly? Not by the user but by Sony during the production of the handset. They may have messed a few up.

I have put my Z1 (not compact) under water and left water on it from the sink, but never submerged it more than 20-30 cm.Also,no problems in rain except for touchscreen going crazy.

C_Marriott even though you have not got the phone yet you seem to think you know about its water proofness. I swuggest you listen to those who have had their phones damaged by water. I keep mine well away as when I return for holiday I want to return it fir a refund.

Also don't ignore the other issues. Look at the Z1 pages too as they have similar hardware and I think the same software release.
