Poor Battery Life

Hello everyone!

I've recently acquired an Xperia Z2 (couple of weeks ago) but i'm not very satisfied about the battery.

The longest on screen time I've ever managed was 5,5 hours with stamina mode enabled and screen brightness turned to 50%.

On normal days with normal usage (facebook, browsing, whatsapp), and Stamina disabled I only get around 4-5 hours.

It's not that it's that low to start complaining but after reading so many reviews about that great battery life of the Z2, the fact that my gf's Glaxy S5 lasts double as long as my z2, and the statements of sony that you should be able to watch video on 80% brightness for >10 hours; I started wondering if something was wrong with my battery.

Someone experiencing the same thing?

How many hours on screen do you guys get?

If you check the "Battery Usage" section in the Power Management area of settings, what are the top three applications/percentage of battery used?

Hi ,everyone ,
I have sim free z2 from german Vodafone, but sw is custom for Vodafone -17.1.2.A.0.323.

Experiencing battery drain on idle, battery slowly disharges at few %/hour .Stamina is on, Extended mode is also on, everything for saving is on, 3G/4G/Wifi is off,screen brightness - Auto I think there is some nasty bug in these, never sw's. They improved call quality, but at the same time broke something else.

I have been getting pretty poor battery life with the new facebook messenger app. If you have this installed try removing it and restart your phone. My battery life was back to normal after that !

i find the first 10% seems to drain without much use. im thinking its the latest firmware causing it. going to try to repair the firmware at some point to see if it fixes it.

@AlexanderH - At this stage I am not seeing anything out of the ordinary, can you try taking the screen shot again when it is down to say 10-15%

Its the same problem for anyone with newer sw, so dont be offended, if i'll write here,because it will be easier to identiefy this bug ,if more users will contribute.

I had the same issue, look at my fourms under the name faisalkhalifa. I had several concerns with the battery draining, I just got my phone back from Sony repairs and they changed my battery and panel back what ever that is. On switching on my phone the battery life was 60% and after a 17 minuet setup it was down to 58%. I realized the phone was draining about 78% of the juice from the screen even though the screen was set to adapting to lighting conditions and stuff. So I'll play around with it more and let you know. Make sure you check out my 2 fourms under my name faisalkhalifa might help the situation.

Yes, there seems to be a problem, because after update from .402 to .323 firmware, there was already visible higher drain, than before. Dont have screenshots, but just overnight battery lost 10% , from 100% to 90% , when wifi,3g/4g/screen was off,stamina on and phone was only lying on the table, during that time .With .402 firmware 2-3% was max ,overnight. Everytime i try to close unused services, sometimes simple restart improves situation a little bit.

So,restarted phone into safe mode and battery drain ended. Steady at 76% for few hours. Now the big question is, which app is causing drain.. Somewhere i've heard,that it was some google play version,causing drain or something similar.

Does anyone has some suggestions,where to start searching?

If you check: Main Menu > Settings > Power Management > Battery Usage. This will tell you which application is using the battery.

There is nothing unusual: screen time, standby time, wake up time usage as always, maybe android system uses up to 30% or more ,sometimes. Will try to download some app from google play, which registers battery usage more accurately.

Phone was in safe mode, for about a day, then restarted, updated some apps ,updates were available in google play and drain seems to have vanished. Looked kinda strange, installed Battery Doctor, for monitoring consumption. At the time of writing charge is steady at 64%, Battery doctor shows, that during 8 hours of monitoring 40,76% is used by Xperia Home(no 3rd party skins or launchers being used, only stock Sony software). I'll keep watching ,if something changes, maybe some app or service will start and trigger drain again.

I have the same problem since I updated the firmware.. Actually my old Z1 used to stay longer with its lower battery capacity.. I really don't wanna move to iPhone or Samsung after almost more than 12 years loyalty to Sony and Sony Ericsson.. But those issues are really important to look at.. Battery and notifications low sound.. I think we will be forced to look other products if issues are not solved.. Been almost 2 years with Sony new products.. This is so sad
