Yellow tint on screen edges on z2 tablet

A day or so ago I started to notice a yellow tint on the edges and corners of the screen. I keep it in the official smart cover as well as a padded tablet sleeve, so very confident it is not related to any stress from other items in my bag. Does seem to be getting stronger as the days go on. Could it be a faulty screen or software related?

Hi there,

I too experience the sama issues. I just realised it today and I called the support and they ask me to send it to Bishan to have it checked.

Highly likely its a assembly fault or LCD Hardware issues.

Sony seems to keep quiet bout it.

Will update u when I sent to them to check.

I also have this exact problem, looked up to see if I had a warranty (on the Sony website) and I do, but then I got a message saying that my device does not support a repair on my support! How can I get this fixed?! If other people have this problem, please post something here! Sony won't do anything about it if enough people don't say!

Hi mattcw450,

I did sent mine to sony on singapore to verify and they did a LCD screen change for me which takes about a week. It depends if they have the spare parts.

They mention it depends on the batch it was produced and mine was the unlucky one. And apparently my wife z2 tablet got the same issues 2 days later and sent to sony as well and got it fixed.

There are no charges as it is under warranty.

Hey, the same yellow tint appears again today and what more there are some dead pixel when screens are black..

Called sony support today but not much luck and the guy has not called back...

I was able to send it back and they replaced the screen. Perfect. Until now, it has started appearing again and getting worse by the day. Am starting to think it is either a very faulty unit or it's the smart cover causing it. Will have to send it back again.

Why in the 1st place we are getting the problem when it is still new in the market. Are Sony tablet not up to the market standards? Or they too wanna have a piece of the pie in the tablet industry?

Best part is my Sony Z2 tablet died on me when I do software updates and can never power on again and have to send for inspection and repair. They tell you it's about 3-4 days but it took them almost 2 weeks to repair a tablet? Why kind of service is this I'm getting from a renowned company!!!???

Hi all...

Up till today sony Singapore has not call me on the availability of the lcd screen replacement. It's been 3weeks and still no call.

The screen in my tablet is getting worse even when they had it replaced it in July...

Anybody from sony singapore care to advise me on this...

Got the same problem and brought my tablet to authorized service center in Moscow. 2 weeks later they returned it without fixing and resolution that there are physical defects of LCD matrix and they cannot fix it under limited warranty.

But there are no visible defects, the tablet is always in Sony case and never suffered any pressure from things in my bag. What should I do to fix my device?

Encountered this same problem recently and send it back to Sony reseller which they sent for repair.... after 3 weeks, the repairer came back that the issue was due to pressure apply to the screen and is not under warranty. It will cost about $360 AUD to fix the screen.

The tablet has the sony covered for added support. I also don't use the tablet very often.

Anyway, I will be calling Sony Mobile to pursue my case. I have 3 sony xperia phones and 1 tablet with Sony. Another smartphone has a different problem. I am re-thinking wether I should be buying another Sony phone or tablet next time. I am not expecting this quality from Sony.

Dear sonymobile support,

I have the same issue with my Z2 tables. Very pity as it’s a good tablet…and unfortunately, I got quite bad experience of Sony mobile reaction on my request to fix my tablet screen in accordance with warranty.

Several weeks ago I found yellow tints on my tablet’s screen. Before going to the service center in Moscow, I searched for information about this issue in internet. I was surprised to see many comments of people who have the same issue and comments that, in most cases, Sony mobile in Russia don’t want accept this issue like a warranty issue. I can't add the links here as my previouse mssage was deleted, but type in google: "Жёлтые пятна на экране Sony Xperia Tablet Z2" and check the results... there are many people in such situation.

This information was confirmed by words during my visit to Sony mobile authorized service center (MT Service) in Moscow. They told that this is mass issue in Russia and, in most cases, Sony rejected warranty requests. So they confirmed the information which I found in the internet. Nevertheless I gave them my tablet for testing and fixing the screen in accordance with warranty. My warranty ticket in service center is 7090985 from 26.02.2015.

Couple of days ago I received an official reply from this service center on my warranty request… with fantastic reason. I’m translating from Russian:

“Indicated problem with screen doesn’t linked to factory production defects and caused by not appropriate tablet usage, including careless tablet usage, led to the screen damage. Screen damage caused by even mechanical pressure to the device, which didn’t leave any marks on the tablet’s body (for example, the device was damaged by heavy unite influence or held between unite or other issue)”.

This is very casuistic reply, as they even didn’t open the tablet’s body to find the reason – screen protective film, which I put on it when bough the tablet, is still on the screen which no changes. No any independent service centers or court accept such reasons.

I’ve made several phone calls to Sony mobile support in Moscow, gave them all this information and asked to accept my tablet for more detailed testing and accepting it for warranty repair. Unfortunately, Sony mobile support rejected my request with no will to help.

There are no visible defects on the tablet body. My tablet is always in Sony case and never suffered any pressure from things.

I need to say that I’m quite disappointed with such an attitude of the large and nice company to their loyal customers. I didn’t expect such quality of device and service from Sony… and thinking whether to by Sony products next time or not. I still hope that Sony will make right steps to help me with warranty issue and will fix the tablet screen.

With all my respect I would like to ask Sony mobile Europen support team to contact their colleagues in Russia, check this case in details and help me with warranty issue.

I’ll be very much appreciated for your reply here also.

Just to update everyone...

I got the following response from Sony Mobile support "Please be aware that your handset has been reassessed and there has been no fault found that would have lead to the damage in question. Given the nature of the damage to the handset we are unable to offer warranty coverage for this repair. With this being the case please now either accept or decline the quote provided by the repair agent regarding the cost for this repair."

I asked Sony Mobile support to explain further and got the following response "As per your request I will elaborate on the findings; the yellow marks found on your display are caused by excessive pressure on the display which in turn damages the screen. As this is physical damage and not a fault we are unable to offer a warranty repair for this case."

Based on the report from the Sony authorized repairer, the tablet has minor screen scratches (which I disputing as I cannot see any of this) and general wear on the housing. Thus, no physical damage found on the tablet which can explain the above statement from Sony.

After several e-mails, Sony will not repair the tablet under warranty. I decided to get the tablet bac and launched a formal complain to Fair Trading to pursue this case further. I would urge you to do the same.

By the way, make sure that you take a picture of your phone or table before sending it to the repairer.

I just spoke with fonebiz in a last ditch attempt to resolve this easily, apparently Sony have issued guidelines for assessment that assume any discoloration is pressure damage, and never a defect. This is despite the fact the Xperia S had a formal admission from Sony of a yellowing defect identical to our issues. Zero LCD defect rate is a ridiculous claim for any manufacturer to make, but apparently any discoloration is not within Sony Australias guidelines for warranty repair, and always pressure damage.

As such the repairer even if can assess it isn't pressure damage and a defect they can't repair it and it goes to Sony who won't accept they ever have LCD discoloration issues...be interesting to see any arbitration accept such a arrogant ridiculous claim of quality control

I have the same problem with Evgeniy, message #15.

I have yellow tints on white screen and blue and green points on the black screen.

In official service centre people after diagnostics said me,that I've done it myself. i sat on tablet PC or beated it by stone, and this isn't case of warranthy.

It isn't so of course, I have no scratches on the screen.

I ask you very much to connect with me, so that I could repair it by warranthy.

I have all documents from service centre, and long correspondence with russian support.

I like production of Sony, but if you вщтже connect with me I will have to go to court, because I see no other possible opportunities to solve my problem.

i just got my z2 tablet, noticed the yellow tint on the corner. to the others that had the tablet longer, does it progressly get worse over time or just stay like that. thanks, got a faux leather case and a crystal glass screen protector on it. other than the yellowing, the tablet works flawlessly

Mine started top left corner with a small circle, then progressively got worse with lines developing all round the edges.
happy with the tabet otherwise. But will never buy a Sony product again given their refusal to fix a defect.
