I'd just tested out on Xperia arc and found that it heats up within one minute of use. I'd tried out in two different stores and still found the same problem.

Does anyone know what could have caused it? Will there be any fix for it?

As far as I know, it should not be the battery problem since it heats up at the upper half of the phone while the battery is at the lower half of the phone. Any input is much appreciated.

I wouldn't say it's really hot but it's definitely heating up and it's just a minute of use, just like when I'm charging my nokia 5800.

Can it be the camera? Or the processor? That's the only 2 reasons I can think of...

Well, the stores I went to, they have the phones on display without the battery. You need to ask the sales personel to let you try them and they will insert the battery for you.

The first time, I was just checking the UI, apps and the camera. The second time, I was just sliding through the screens to check for lag and took a photo, I didn't even run any apps... I asked during the 1st try but she didn't answer it. During the 2nd try, the sales personel was busy attending to another customer so I didn't ask. I can't seem to search for this problem on the web so I'm not sure if it's a common problem...

Is it? But I remember playing with a HTC not long ago and I didn't feel it heating up... I'm just worried if it's some hardware problems... This phone is quite expensive so I need to make sure it can last for quite some time if I decide to buy it.

seikor: I own the Arc and i got exactly the same problem in fact if you search the forum I've posted the same here.

I gotten an answer, somebody but i cant remember who. He said the heat is most likely due to the 3G when it is getting signal. I found it is quite true, as places where 3G signal is weak my phone get heated up in min. What I can do is if there's wi-fi around, I'll switch to wi-fi (my preset in phone is off 3G if wi-fi is available), this quite immediately "cool" down the phone. Otherwise I try to move to another nearby location where the signal is stronger. If I'm surfing and the signal is weak then I would close the browser.

SO I'm sure it's due to the 3G signal.

I found that this also enhance the battery life if you stop your internet connection using 3G when the signal is weak.

Hope it help in your decision making.

ARC IS GREAT!

Added on later: Yday was taking a call and suddenly the temperature shot up very high...in fact it was quite heated up!

just some ideas:

my Arc heats up when:

1. I'm in a really poor reception area, thus more power is used for keeping the connection running (or so I guess...)

2. I've played Angry Birds for one hour

3. I've got a bit too many apps running

So the upper part of the phone gets quite warm but not dangerously hot.
