Hi there.

I bought z3c yesterday and today I've tryed it under water, made a few shots of fishes, about 10cm under the water.

Sure, I've checked cover before, but I've found few drops under the covers. Telephone is ok, nothing happened and works fine, but the humidity sensor is now pink/red, which means it's not under the warranty anymore. Does somebody have the same issue? I'm scared to shoot under the water again because of this. I bought it mainly because it should be ok to shoot under water. What can I do now? Have to say I'm really dissapointed with this.

It was normal water, covers were leveled perfectly

I know I do have to check it so I did. I know I can take it back to the store, but I'm pretty sure what they will say. That it's my fault. This is not my firsr Xperia. I have T, Z tablet and now Z3c. I love Sony products, but I wanted ask you guys at first if somebody had same problem. As I said, device is perfectly fine, but I'm worried.

When water gets in your phone, you should not continue to use it; switch it off, put it in a bag of uncooked rice and let it be there for 24 hours so that it has time to dry. It may be too late for yours, but I don't know...

Just out of interest, as I wasn't aware there was such a thing and it's not referenced in the manual! If it gets pink or red it means water entered the phone. It stays red forever.

There are two possibilities. Phone's fault. It will fail vacuum test in service center or your fault and phone will pass vacuum test. Then warranty is void.

Also do not open flaps just after immersing phone in water. Let it dry for few hours. Remove external cover if you use one, because water may stay there.

If for some reason you hit salt water clean the phone immediately with fresh water and let it dry. IP68 is only against fresh water with flaps perfectly closed.

Xperia Z3 Compact Water Damage

Hi,

Advice: if you value your Xperia phone, data and wan't to avoid hassle, do not take the phone anywhere near water. If you really want to try it, tape up all flaps or points of potential entry with duct tape and backup your data.

So I have owned a Sony Xperia Z3 for a couple of months now, and have overall been very happy with the device. Large factors in buying it were its good specs, long battery life and rugged waterproof/dustproof design.

As time passed I became more curious to try out the waterproof features which are so heavily advertised. I tried taking some photos in a swimming pool, and the phone seemed fine. Later that day it was behaving strangely, not responding etc and then switched off completely and would not start with just showing a flashing notification indicator. I left it in rice for two days, hoping the components would dry out, but it was still unresponsive. Obviously, before I entered the pool I double checked all the flaps. I felt pretty apprehensive about submerging the phone and was very cautious, but I thought surely a company such as Sony making such avid claims about its waterproof capabilities, blatantly marketing it as a major selling point the waterproof capabilities with pictures of people swimming with it and pouring water on it, I thought it should be fine.

Unfortunately it was not!

I took the phone to a sony repair centre, waited around for a long time, then was treated brashly, and forced to sign a form, saying that the warranty is void in case of drop damage, water damage etc. So I am feeling pretty pessimistic about the prospect of repair or replacement.

I am hoping for answers from Sony? This is pretty unacceptable to sell a phone claiming it is waterproof then say the warranty is void in case of water damage, I will already have lost all my data, now I will not have a phone as well?

This is extrememly dissapointing!!!

Why oh why is Sony making false claims in it's advertising? The phone can be considered water resistant, but showing photos of people swimming with it is tempting fate and unfair to the consumer. I would never have taken it near water that day if it were not for the bold claims made by Sony.

I have been told by Sony to wait a minimum of two weeks to hear back from the repair centre? In the mean time I am phone less and do not even know if I need to buy a new one? It seems all very unfair.

I will inform you how the situation develops

Will

You have to ask for a VACUUM TEST when you suspect water damage & that you are adamant that the flaps were closed tightly........a vacuum test is the best way to determine if your phone is indeed waterproof, so my advice would be to contact your local Xperia Care Centre & insist on one.......hope this helps :smileysmileywink:

FWIW, I copy and pasted this from some web site someplace, so unfortunately I cannot credit the author, but here's how to pressure test the phone yourself:

If you're worried about putting it in water then test the pressure.

1) close the flaps
2) dial *#*#7378423#*#*
3) service tests/pressure sensor
4) Place it on a flat surface.
5) press on the screen with your finger, the pressure should rise
6) Open a flap, press, pressure should NOT rise like the previous step with the flaps closed.

7) If pressure rises when a flap is open, do NOT put it in water and take it to your local Sony service center.

This test has been looked at indepth (pardon the pun) on the XDA Website & the results seem to vary quite a lot.....in my opinion it is not a good a test or as accurate as the Vacuum test.......i know you cant do a Vacuum test at home but if you have honest doubts a call or visit to your local Xperia Care Centre would be best :smileysmileywink:

I purchased sony xperia z3 on 7 july 2015 from flipkart.com .I purchased it mainly due to its waterproof capabilities. I so one day i wanted to test its underwater camera so i dipped it in normal tap water inside a bucket (i checked the side covers 100 times...literally). it worked just fine. but a day later i saw water droplets forming in back and front camera (but the phone and camera worked just fine) so i went to sony centre vashi to repair it and they said that it was not under warranty as it is water damaged and they would have to send it to head office and it would take 7 days just to tell me the cost of repair. After 7 days they told me they would have to change camera for 3000 rupees so i said i dont want my camera to be changed so they took 115 rupees (as transport costs) and gave it back. but the fog was gone.

After a month i tested it again in normal water (just poured some running water on it.. Did not even dip it) and again i checked the flaps 10 time before doing it. after few hours i saw fog again and the phone was not starting. First i thought it didnt have charge so i charged it for half hour. (while charging the notification light was constantly blinking red). and then when i tried to start it only sony logo would appear but then it would go black again. after a few tries it started i backed up my contacts and as soon as i removed it from charging port i turned black again and after that i tried every thing to turn it on for 3-4 days but only sony logo would appear and it would go black. then i checked the side flaps and found out that the usb side flap was a little bit damaged (and before you could tell me that its my fault) i want to tell u that i have a magnetic charger for sony xperia z3 and i have only opened that flap 2 times (first time to charge before i bought my magnetic charger and second time to connect it to my laptop)

So i recently took it to sony centre at panvel and they said the same thing that it was not under warranty an it is water damaged and they would have to send it to sony head office and they would tell me the repairing cost after 7 days. Today i got a call from the service centre that the phone's motherboard was dead and it would cost me 13250 rupees to repair it.

I want answers from sony. This is what u call as a waterproof phone? it was a manufacturing defect that the flap was damaged and water might have entered through it. now i would have to pay 13000 rupees for a small manufacturing defect? (actually soo small that hardly someone would notice).

i want my money back. i want a free repair for my phone or a replaced handset. really disappointed it was my dream phone.
