that is because when you play the ringtone both the speaker works but during a call or a notification the bottom speaker works,,,same happens with my Sony Xperia Z2

When choosing the ringtone from the setup menu. The preview sound was large enought. However, during call-in the ringtone is about 70-80% of the sound compare with the preview. It happen on notification tone!

It didn't happen on Xperia Z.

Any comment?

You need to raise the volume in ringtone and notifications. The preview has to do with media volume.

I'm not sure but i believe this is for safety reasons so that you can't get a high volume ringtone directly in your ear.

@Rickard surly if that was the case if you were listening to music on max and raised the phone to your ear the proximity sensor would shut the music off. Otherwise it totally defeats the safely aspect of what you were saying? Because who puts a phone to their ear before answering it???

Seems like a daft safety feature.

Say for example that you have an ongoing call, the call is dropped without you noticing it and then you get another call or the other person calls you back while you have it to your ear. Or say you're on GSM, you get a call, data is disconnected, the call is dropped without you noticing it and then data is restored and you get notifications.

But on Android 5.0 we are also using the top speaker but the volume is not as loud from the top speaker.

The beauty of the Xperia series is the notification "blip" when a call is lost. Which is notification enough for me to tell a call has been lost/dropped.
But hey at least it's been massively improved for lollipop

The issue is when you receive a call, you can not hear the phone if it is a little bit away from me. Me I have the same issue. Other phones manufacturers don't apply this idea mentioned above. Sorry Sony this doesn't work
