notification problems

I have a new z1 compact and it doesnt tell me when i have new e-mail or notify me of instagram or facebook messages.

When I go into any of these and refresh them i get the message and then the little #1 on the home screen next to facebook or e-mail icons will come up! but still no light, noise or icon in the notification bar at top of screen....

I have set up the notifications in settings; allocated a sound and vibrate....but still nothing! any advice?

I do uliwooly, yes. but whether its on or off doesnt seem to change notification issue...

open the FB app > menu > app settings > scroll down > phone LED has to be on

Email > menu > settings > your email > scroll down > notification light must be selected

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

You could also try checking the application to see if the Show Notifications box has been unticked.

Menu > Settings > Apps > Find App > Tick Show Notifications.

Let us know how you get on with these instructions.

Have you turned on "Auto-sync data"?

You find it in the quick settings.
