Well said I also bought due to the noise cancelling and it does not even work anymore since lollipop update, also tried software repair... Still no sound in right ear. It's clearly a software problem and Sony should send an update

Hi, I bought the phone with bundled noise cancelling headphones and they worked flawlessly. Since then I've applied 2 updates from Sony and when I went to use my noise cancelling headphones after not really using them (I usually prefer my Sennheisers) I have no sound in the right earbud.

If I plug it into any regular 3pin 3.5mm jack it's fine, I have sound in both channels, and plugging other headphones into the Z2 gives me proper stereo too.

Seems to be a problem when the Z2 noise cancellation software and the noise cancelling headset try to play together.

Any thoughts? It's only happened recently.

I can't use my MDR-NC31E headphones, they did work but since the recent update (23.0.1.A.0.167), when I plug in these headphones, my Xperia recognises it as a stereo microphone only (not headphones) and therefore the headphones don't get sound and the loudspeaker remains on. I really like this headset and wish it would work again. Other headphones work, I've cleaned my port out, and they work in my laptop fine.

Nothing yet, I absolutely love the phone though, it's perfect beyond the 'honeymoon' phase. I believe there's a new Sony branded update of Android Lollipop coming in January, I'll wait for that and see what happens. Shame if the next update doesn't fix it, they were really good when they worked.

I have the same problem for months now.

Even send my phone back to Sony through the store i bought my phone.

All that was done was a factory reset and even though i specificly said it was a problem in combination with the MDR-NC31E headphones i got a message nothing was found broken.

Then i read on this forum a Sony employee says the problem was found and fixed in Lollipop so i thought ahh i can go without my headphones a little longer.

And guess what... after lollipop came out here last week the problem of the Z2 seeing the headphones as a MIC is gone but i STILL HAVE NO SOUND in my right earpiece. The only way to get sound is to wiggle the jack.

So what have i done on my end :

- Phone has been send back to Sony = Sony didnt fix it

- Smart connect settings deleted = didnt fix it

- Cleaned out the connector port for the earplugs = No result and still no fix

- Installed Lollipop = NO fix

- Tried my headphones on another device and right earpiece works just fine = Not broken earpieces

- Been using Apple headphones ever since Sony cant help me and they just work fine

I am really really angry at the moment because the noice cancelling was one of the reasons i bought the Z2. Other then my mobile phone almost all electronics in our house is from Sony but im strating to doubt i will buy products from Sony again since im just treated like the problem doesnt even excists.

Im done Sony...

My brand new z3c phone does not work with MDR-NC31E earphones either properly, in my case only the right earbud makes sound (on the right one noise cancelling works, but the left bud does not make any sound at all) All softwares are up to date, android ver. 5.1.1 Xperia software 23.4.A.1.200, still does not work properly. Sony Xperia Support team, users need a workable solution here!!!!!

Anybody else found a fix for the issue?

If you are facing issues with your phone, always try to boot to Safe Mode by long press on Power Off button and see if the issue persisted in Safe Mode. If not, than you have a rogue app that is causing the issue. Hunt for it and uninstall, you should get back a perfect phone.
