Xperia Z1 Battery Drain?

Hi All,

I have the Z1 running Android 4.4.4 and all of a sudden the battery has started to drain whereas normally it would last all day without having to charge and thats not particularly heavy usage.

Is anyone else experiencing this and where do I start to look into why my phone has changed so recently

Had the same problem after the last .108 OTA update. The battery started to drain in just half a day. Also the system started to freeze and restart every day. I had to reset the phone and flashed with the .133 firmware branded for vodafone UK and for now it's stable, only had one system freeze with restart in 3 days...

Hi,

Thanks for the 'update' update.....but I have this already installed and the phone was updated months ago. So it probably is not the cause of the battery drain but maybe a 3rd party app as also suggested but I'm not so sure 😞

Nope it's android 4.4.4 because even if you close ur 3rd party apps, it drains real fast! I have the same prob on my xperia z

I'm on .108 too and don't observe excesive battery drain, despite I had a lot of trouble on Android 4.2.

Could you post a screenshot from Settings / Power / Battery usage? It will give us a rough idea what's going under the hood.

Hi DJuro.

From this picture I can't see antyhing unusual. 7 hours, 30% of battery lost. In this time over 50% of battery was consumed by screen which is quite normal in this phone.

Only unusual thing is that Gravity app that took 6%.

How long have you been using the phone? I mean... for some reason screen is not off, like you have been playing around with it or something keeps it on (like touching keys in a pocket).

Could you touch this graph and post second pic with activity details? There is a bar that tells us if the phone is in standby or is doing something in background.

Normally this phone losts between 1 and 2% of battery per hour in standby, depending on network conditions (signal level, LTE, wireless activity) and background applications.

So after 7 hours you could loose from 100% to 85% battery and that wouldn't be something strange. Add 15% for screen activity and we are on your screenshot.

In response to your question, the screen is normally off which is what the gravity screen app is there for. I'm going to remove it and see if there is a difference (although its been working perfectly fine in the past).

Yes. But it is pretty normal. I have similar battery life given the activity you have.

Hi Sergio,

Thanks for your time on this. Although it might be behaving as you expected it I definitely think the battery has started to drain a lot quicker than before.

Now that I've removed Gravity Screen (3rd party app) I'll see how the phone performs today with normal usage

Maybe you are right. Battery on 4.2 was perfect, then were hard times on 4.3 and 4.4.2, now at 4.4.4 I feel it's better. Maybe that's why. But my phone is one year old and I think that battery is in very good condition.

Hi Sergio,

Just for reference I took a screenshot after a days normal usage and the battery has fallen to 40%. I have to admit that I've been used to the battery being above 55% at least recently so there is certainly a change. Also, I've only had the phone since April 2014 so it's still very new.

Is this normal as expected?
