Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Well, it's hard to say if there's something wrong with the microphone or not. If you believe there is something wrong I suggest that you try to repair the phone software using PC Companion..

Before repairing your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to.
How to backup?

If the issue should still remain I think that this needs to be examined and fixed at a repair center. For more information about how to submit your phone for repair and where, contact your local support team.

Hi Sam,
Do you really think it is a problem with only few mobiles? I can bet it is a bug for all Sony xperia sp and in this case it's really shame on Sony to not come up with a solution even after repeated complaints made in this forum in any of the updates.
This makes me feel like this forum officials ( apart from users ) are not at all really concerned or helpful in Sony's growth and support. Really I have found no solutions provided by persons like you in this forum apart from replying like, use sus, phone reset, repair, or provide details like imei... It's really like a **bleep** auto reply? This phone has serious issues in video recording such as camera focus and audio recording. Sony played wise in selling this phone with so much known issues. If you can't provide the promised and taken back update its no problem but you have to atleast come with a reason in public. I'm coming up with an article on how Sony played fools game with a real people's testimonials which is going to be published on Indian National major Newspaper. I hope which will definitely made a impact on Sony's sales but I have no intention for that as I only want to create awareness to my country citizens.
Ps: no intention to hurt anyone.
