Hey just to inform how I solved the problem-maybe not the same with 'damaged' problem.

My problem was that my z3c didn't mount the 64g sd card. (seemed that it recognized the card, but couldn't do anything to mount it)

It was Samsung MICROSDHC 64G EVO UHS-I CLASS10, and it worked well on other devices, also other sd cards worked on my z3c.

Here's what I did to make it work.

1. Wipe disk (one&zero), using MiniTool partition wizard.

2. Make a single partition within it (FAT), and make it 'Primary'

3. Format the disk in Windows, as exFAT and default cluster size.

4. Reboot the phone and insert the card when it starts to boot.

I don't know how it solved, but this is what I did.

Try formatting the card on your Pc in the exFat format or you can use guiformat to force format it into Fat32

I am having the exact same problem on my new Xperia Z3. It absolutely refuses to read my 64gb sd card. Formatting it through the phone prompt just makes it continuously pop up with SD card damaged please format. The card works fine on mulitple windows pc. It can be read and written to with no problems on the PC. I have tried formatting it in exFAT and Fat32 (Windows wouldn't let me format it as Fat32 since its a 64GB card but I forced it thru 3rd party software). Neither worked and the phone still refuses to read this card. The phone reads other 4GB cards with no problem. Anyone from Sony care to comment?

Hi,

What brand is the 64GB SD cards?

Have you used it with other units before using it with the Sony Phone?

I just bought a 64GB Sandisk microSDXC (class 10) from DealXtreme in Hongkong. It worked right out of the box with Z3 Dual (D6633).

No problems so far. (have not tried it with other units as don't have any that are 64GB compatible).

Regards

Kim from Norway

Hi- capacity cards can be quite fussy so I would make sure you have full formatted the card - not via the "Quick Format"

Have you 'un-mounted' the card between tries? Make sure you're phone is turned off for several minutes without any card in the slot. then try again.

You may need to fuly reboot the phone using the 'paperclip' reset switch but backup all your data first.

I have already tried doing a full format instead of "Quick Format" with both Fat32 and exFat. The card is not "fussy" on any other system or phone and works perfectly fine...it is only the Z3 where the card is "fussy". Therefore I would say it is the Z3 that is "fussy" not the sd card. The Z3 still only pops up with damaged SD card. Turning the phone off does not help. Restarting the phone merely causes it to pop up with damaged the SD card again. Mounting/unmounting the sd card on the phone does nothing. This is a brand new stock Z3...no root, no custom rom.

The low level format tool did not work. The SD card was recognized no problem by my PC and I ran the low level format tool. This took over an hour and left the device as completely blank, with no partiotion or file table of any sort. Putting into the phone directly from the low level format still produced the damaged sd card error to pop up. Clicking on format on the error screen causes it go to Erasing and then right back to Damaged SD card please reformat. Plugging it into the PC again it is immediately recognized and says the card needs to be formatted before use. Windows formatted it as exFAT and the card was working fine on the PC. Plug the card back into the phone...Damaged SD card error still.
