I have not had one issue with regards to hardware until now...

Since the 314 update, there seems to me areas (bottom half of screen) that are sometime completely unresponsive to taps...

Anyone else experience this?

This is definitely a software bug. When I press the back button or select something to change the apps's activity, the deadzone goes away...

based on your other posts, you might have a faulty unit

I just updated about a week ago and now I have the same issue, a horizontal strip of touchscreen near the middle is very unresponsive. In the diagnostic screen test the line drawn always breaks there. I tried updating again to no avail.. Hopefully a new update will fix this or I'll have to send it in for repairs.

The best solution is Sony's Authorized Service Centre or other Electronic Service that repairs sony's devices.
If the device is on warranty and there are no Services available in a region, You can try to replace/return it in the place you bought it from.
These are the only things that comes to my mind, there is no magic solution and I'm 80% sure if reinstalling android won't change anything it's a faulty unit, not software issue.
My Z2 is healthy 100%, all the updates istalled, so it's nothing like a global system problem just some faulty devices on market.
