According to the report I already received from the service center, several parts have been replaced:

-mainboard

-part of the case

-"small parts"

-wifi-antenna

Hmm, seems pretty much to me that they gutted the phone and replaced everything in there. Is it worth it?

Hi,

my X1 compact shows a strange behavior since yesterday:

I plugged it in via the USB port for charging, and it started doing crazy things. Screen brightness went flashing from low to high and back, the touchscreen showed slow or no response to pushing buttons, everything got laggy as if some kind of process was running in the background with no end. When I unplug it, it basically works normally. But - from this time on, I couldn't charge it anymore, as the charge went down instead of up when plugged in! I tried a factory reset several times (power + volume up for 3 seconds), and although it did reset, the charging problem remained. I left it turned off for one night while plugged in, and in the morning, it was just charged to 25% with the charge going down rapidly in the first couple of minutes (after 5 minutes to 11%). Now it's at 1%, but I can use it for quite a while, indicating that the displayed charge certainly isn't correct.

When I plug it in, the same things happen again and again. When plugged in, I can't even enter the PIN correctly, because touchscreen input is somehow recognized falsely.

What could that be, what could I do??

Aleks

Hi,

yes I tried with a wall socket, and I tried 2 different ones, with no difference.

I also noticed that it really got warm as soon as I plugged it in and linked that to CPU usage. So I downloaded 2 process manager apps to check if it's just an app that does this. But I found out, that, as soon as I plug it in, A LOT of apps are started at the same time, like Chrome, Facebook, Google+ etc. etc. So i t seems that it just "acts wildly" when I plug it in and I can't stop it from doing so!

I also tried to turn off smart connect, but it's already turned off.

What is this??

Regards,

Aleks

I'd like to, but... now it's gone from 1% to dead, and I can't bring it back to life, whether plugged in or not!

When it's plugged in, the red charging light doesn't even come up. When I hard reset it, it just vibrates as it should, but no charging light whatsoever. When I unplug it and try to start it, the red light just flashes three times.

Now I'll just try to leave it plugged in for some time, in hope that there will be enough charge to try to boot into safe mode.

But to me, it seems like some kind of hardware bug? I mean, it seems like the same problen bothers the phone even when it's shut down, so I wouldn't gess it's a problem with the apps or the system! But I just don't get why it worked all the time and then just suddenly this thing happens! I've had it now for 6 weeks, and I already had a similar problem on the second day already, but it went away with a hard reset while charging... after that, perfect charging and good battery life for 6 weeks!

Regards,

Aleks

It could be hardware related, but there are apps that can really mess with your phone.Lets check for that in safe mode.

Alright, now I managed to recharge it with the cellotape trick: Push power+volume up, fix the pushed buttons with cello tape, and then plug it in for loading. The red lamp reappeared, and after a night went to green. When I unplugged it then, the "sony" logo came and went away all the time until I did a hard reset, now I could boot it.

I know rebooted in safe mode, and plugged in it for testing: Same error. Seems like some button or action is always performed. Everything is laggy, touchscreeen input works hardly to not at all, and the phone gets warmer. Definitely doesn't charge either.

At least now I know how I can charge it when needed, which is important as I'm on vacation right now...

Looks like sending it to service when I'm back, doesn't it?

Regards,

Aleks

OK, now that the testing is through, I can say that it now works as it should, no more strange behaviour. Well where should it come from anyway, the whole mainboard is new!

But - the first time I tried to charge it via the sony docking station, it again lost charge instead of gaining! I feared that it's the same issue again, and did a hard reset and charged via USB again. As it charged normally, i tried it again in the dock in a later cycle and since then it works like it should. Let's hope there's not going to be charging issues anymore. Seems like teething troubles of the z1 compact anyway.

So long,

Aleks
