sellotape on packaging - why

Well the phone turned up but was sealed with what looks to be o!d yellowed sellotape. This gives a bad impression of the device and it looks like someone has been in the box. Personally the distinct impression is of the unit being secondhand.

Can sony comment on this as my reaction and I am sure others feel the same way is to reject it straight away.

Sounds like someone actually was in the box. Mine was sealed with circular Sony logo stickers.

Hi Fred

My box was like that too. Made me wonder about the quality of the product inside - however as I found out the phone is fine; none of the issues everyone else has been having. My Z2 has a build date 14W18 - theres a liitle plastic tab within the sd card slot you can pull out to discover your build date - its on the top right hand corner of that tab.

Your box looked something like this...?

It could be that is waas opened by the shop/store to add extra things like a screen protector or to check and or update firmware before dispatch etc etc

To me it is suspicious and not what is expected. Everything seems be in the box but I am not impressed with camera but I will post a second thread for that.

Fred1964 & JonC, who did you purchase the phone from? Sony directly or through a 3rd party like service provider or vendors? Both of you did not specify.

Fred 1964, so you bought it from a reseller on Amazon, not directly from Sony. How about the OP? He/she has not return to enlighten us from whom the phone was obtained from.

The phone and its replacement came from amazon.co.uk, they did not come a reseller i.e.amazon marketplace. Quite frankly they look second and this isn't what I expect when buying a top of the range premium product. **bleep** do sony think they are doing????

I am very unimpressed and sony need a kick up the backside to seal their packages properly so customer do not get a bad impression just looking at packaging.

Well Fred 1964, if you bought from Amazon, it's considered a 3rd party seller. Why don't you buy directly from Sony Store? http://eshop.sonymobile.com/gb/buy/xperia-z2-black/1281-0821/ which is available online in UK? If the phone came directly from Sony UK, than it's valid for Sony to explain why, am I reasonable?

I have not seen selotape used to seal a box at any of the normal retailers. However there could be a number of reasons for this from a simple retailer checking the contents before dispatch or even customs if it is imported.

I bought mine from Carphone warehouse. Having ordered online I picked it up from store. It wasn't sealed at all. I asked the shop assistant why wasn't it sealed - her answer was that sony don't seal the boxes - all their boxes were like this. There were no markings either of seals that had been removed. So, if this is true, perhaps the supplier sealed it so that it would be firmly shut for postage? Long shot perhaps....?
