Phone function and contacts crash after firmware update

Don't update to this firmware!!!! I'm in UK and upgraded on Friday. Phone function and contacts stopped working after the upgrade. It keeps crashing every time I go to contacts or call log. When it crashes it gives this message :'' Unfortunately, the process Com.Android.phone has crashed.''
Nothing helps, not even a restart. This is really rubbish that from all function that Sony could have messed up following a firmware update is the actual phone app. I have no clue how to fix it.

'alexdon', I will try this today as trying removing the cache and data from the phone and contacts app as suggested above, fixes it temporarily. I find that a few minutes later (or rather browsing the contacts on the phone which makes the cache grow again), clicking on the phone app or going to contacts makes it crash again.

When it crashes, other than the 2 consecutive popup messages telling about the services that stopped working, the signal gets lost (red X) AND SIM card has a red X on it. This goes on for a few seconds until it restores connection again. Any idea?

As mentioned, had no problems before the upgrade last week.

Hi I am in Denmark so not comparable but I dont have issues with the latest update. But neither did it help on any of the bugs i am experiencing. Its not a Sony phone but a **bleep**ny phone.

Hi,

I'm from Brazil and after the upgrade, the same happens to me. Cleaning the cache is a temporary solution.

is there any way to escalate this to Sony ? Discussions here are going nowhere.

In TURKEY same terrible Error continuously everyday.

Even I have tried the phone repair. Never buy a sony mobile. The are TV and game console producer.

I had the same problem when I transfered the agenda from my old Galaxy S4. Phone contacts as well as Calls kept crushing.

Yesterday I deleted the agenda and started to manually input all my contacts. Until now, no crush. And there is no delay when accessing Phone contacts.

Telstra User in Australia and have the same Issue since installation of Build Version 17.1.2.A.0.314

Putting up with it but very frustrating. In fact pi....ing me off.

Having used a Sony for the past 10 years dissapointed with this error not be rectified quickly.

process com.android.phone stops rergulalry and cuts out in the middle of phone calls.

contacts also stops.

Experiencing lag in recent call log appearing on phone.

We need a new release to fix the issue.

That's why I returned my phone after only 2 months and will never buy Sony again. When companies don't take accountability for their poor software releases, they need go be punished back by customers. Never again Sony.

I'm sorry to hear that.

I recommend that you first try the phone in safe mode to check if the issue might be caused by a downloaded 3:rd party app that's not compatible with the new software version. When you update to a new version of Android you may have apps installed that are not compatible with it.

If the issue remains in safe mode i recommend that you try to repair the phones software using PC Companion but please note that this will reset your phone and delete all your data. In PC Companion, select Support zone -> Software update -> Repair phone and then follow the instructions.
