Very confused. I upgraded my phone via 3, four weeks ago. I wanted to get my screen Ghost Armoured to protect it but due to going on holiday and living so far from Lakeside (the only place to get GA) I decided to put the screen protector that came with the phone on till I could get it done. I noticed the protector made the screen very dull and frosty looking. Whilst at Bluewater on the 21st June, I saw a promotional Sony Z2 stand. I went and asked them why my protector made the screen so dull, They guy asked me why I have a protector on it and I said it came with the phone. He said it shouldn't have as the phones screens are scratch proof and the only thing that would scratch them is if I were to scratch a diamond across the screen. He then took the protector off for me. Assuring me it would be fine. WRONG my phone now has a lovely 1" scratch across the screen, and several other scratches and scuffs on the screen. I'm so annoyed and confused!

Hi, this is a difficult one.....i do not think the actual screen is 'scratch resistant'.....dont think any manufacturer could guarantee that, how did the scratches occur...ie do you carry the Z2 in your pocket with other items?????

You really should not have allowed the guy to take off your screen protector until you had a different one to fit on, the 'glass' screen protectors are really good & allow the brightness/clarity to shine thru.

Possibly contact your local Sony Xperia Care for their advice....

I've own 2 Samsung phones before(S1 and S3) which uses Gorilla Glass, not a scratch on screen after a year without protector, so I suspect the quality of so called "scratch resistant" glass Sony using is not as good..

Sony uses DragonTrail glass which is pretty scratch resistant and durable but not as much as the newer Gorilla Glass 2 (or 3?).

Just checked out a video for the new glass for the iPhone 6 which will use SAPPHIRE glass......seems to be totally scratch resistant/bendable etc.....interesting :smileysmileywink:

Normal glass isn't very scratch resistant which is why metals and minerals can scratch it, they are harder. This is why you can get seemingly random scratches on your phone screen, but they could be caused by wiping/scraping dirt of the screen or metal studs near pockets on your jeans for instance.

Google the Mohs scale for more info but basically many things could scratch glass.

Obviously crosslinking, additives or coatings are designed to increase the scratch resistance of glass, but usually that's what you get, scratch resistance not scratch proof.

Just to make you feel better, I think most phones I've owned ended up with a fine scratch or two on them. Most were not visible enough to bother me though.
