Problems accessing SD card

I now find that I cannot access the SD card I think following a recent software update. All the references to the card are faded out in the storage settings. Any thoughts on what might cure this.

Are you able to use the mount SD card option you could also try removing the SD card and checking it hasn't been corrupted via a Pc - Then save all your info/files format the card and leaving it blank reinsert it back into your phone then switch on your phone - If it works then connect your phone via USB and transfer all your info/files back

Thanks. However even if I take the SD card out, the instruction "Mount SD card" is faded out and does not work. The same is incidentally true for the other instructions below on the screen.

Data inaccessibility over SD card can happen due to wide range of reasons. If you wish to make use of those inaccessible files, then simply make use of Remo Recover...

Thanks for comments but I have now found out that the problem is with the SD card itself which seems to have died. Replacing it seems to have solved the problem.
