I suggest that you download our application "Xperia Diagnostics". From this application you can test the device.

You can also try to boot your phone into safe mode to see if you experience the same bahaviour from here:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008

Otherwise, I suggest that you perform a software repair your unit via Update Service:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Download and install SUS at your PC, follow the instructions that appear.

This is a known software bug. The solution is to restart the phone. It happens after making a phone call.
Some of Sony's most expensive models have also had this problem but Sony fixed it with a firmware update.

By the way, Sony support have come back to me. They aren't aware of this problem and aren't going to issue a fix for it. I therfore suggest you get your money back:

"Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.

We are sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with the speaker on your Sony Xperia L.

We can advise the fault mentioned is not one known to Sony and have therefore not released a fix for this problem in a software update."
