My last Zylo did the same thing last year, I assumed it had overheated and I bought a new PAYG one, exactly the same.

2. Today the replacement has just done the same thing; hence I have come here looking for help. Statistically the odds of the same thing happening twice are very low indeed unless it is a known common fault, which is astounding really; if it is a common known fault, they should have undertaken a recall as carmakers do.

3. I have just spent an hour and a half of my life downloading the service updater software, and software update, installed it on my phone, and it is still doing the same thing. It rumbles when I switch it on, the keypad backlights, but the screen doesn't come into life. Despite when I went through the software upgrade the screen lit up as it should do normally.

Not only is the phone software-hardware interface clearly inadequate and unreliable, but I would use the phrase built-in obsolescence in a certain context but I guess if I did the Sony Ericsson legal team would go to great lengths to explain that phrase wouldn't be applicable.

Worse still really is the brazen time-thievery of my wasting an hour and a half of my life on undertaking an unnecessary upgrade, which the Sony Ericsson technical people probably know is likely to be futile, but they hope engages and 'locks in' (to use the heart-warming language of marketing) the customer to staying with the brand, as they have 'invested' time with the product (again, notice the linguistic gymnastics involved in turning the word 'wasted' into 'invested').

It is a shame as the basic functionality is good.

We have seen this black screen issue in some other models, the most common solution to this problem is to update the phone using update service, if up-to-date at the end it should give you an option to reinstall the software. Try that is doesn't work let us know.

Sorry to hear all this.

First of all, we do of course not recommend updating on your own for marketing reasons. If we do not believe that a update can fix the problem, we recommend a repair at a service center instead.

In this case, since a update obviously did not solve your problem - you will need to have the phone sent to a service center in order for us to fix this. Your dealer should help you with sending the phone.

I now have the same problem with my lovely (previously lovely I mean!) 3-month-old Zylo mobile that people are describing here :smileycry:.

The interesting thing is that the problem started within hours of me connecting my Zylo to the Internet for the very first time. This makes me suspect that the problem is caused by a virus.

Has Sony Ericsson investigated the virus possibility? Does Sony Ericsson in fact know what is causing the problem, and if so will they tell us?? And is there a fix???

Also, what about the other people with the same problem - did your Zylo have access to the Internet at all before the problem started? Because if some Zylos that have the fault had NEVER accessed the Internet when the problem started then we have disproved my virus theory.

hi carol@trioross.plus,

i hate to say it, but it cant be a virus. all of us seemed to have tried a software update/master reset, which would have wiped any virus. and until two months ago, i accessed the internet almost every day.

the zylos seem to crash at anytime, so it was probably just a coincidence that it happened just after you accessed internet for the first time.

sony says i have to repair ... time to take the plunge...

Yeh, i doubt very highly it was a virus.

1. because i never connected to my pc.

2.who would waste their time to make a virus for a sony erricson phone? no one.

also ive noticed that my phone works completely when it is slid down. is this in commom with any1 else? and whenever i slide up it turns black.

if anyone has the same issue please say so so we can determine that it is a common fault.

yeah, my phone works with the slider slid down. seems to be something to do with the flex cable/lcd screen and whatever else.

viruses are software directed and yeah, no one would be bothered making a virus for the SE OS. mainly just android/iOS.

Same thing happened to my phone. Just three months old. Is there a solution if the updates don't work? How can one use a phone without a keypad? I can't access the internet or text.
