Hi,

Don't know if anybody has experienced this. The notification tones in messaging/email apps are broken; meaning there is a break while playing the tone. Either there is an annoying 'click' at the beginning, which is mostly the case, or the tone 'breaks' sometime in the middle while playing.

I've tried disabling the sound enhancements and different combinations too, but it happens almost all the time during every notification; SMS, Whatsapp, etc. I am on .757. Was happening on .681 too. Not that it is a major issue, but it is quite annoying.

Anybody aware of this problem?

Thanks.

It would be worth having the files reinstalled via a software repair:

1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

When This problem came up immediately after updating to .681 (along with the ear speaker problem), I went through the above procedure on .681.

There was no improvement. The ear speaker problem was solved but this one remains.

The crackling/stuttering notification tones has been my major annoyance since upgrading my Z1 (C6903) to .757 KK firmware.

I've tried using SUS to do a full wipe install, I tried doing a repair install of the firmware - every time the notification tones stutter/crackle... whether I use the stock tones or custom ones.

I've seen an updated firware (.761) is available in some regions, but not for generic UK unbranded phones - I hope a fix comes soon as this is just really poor for what is/was a flagship phone. It took so long for the KitKat update to arrive anyway, then when it did arrive, there are issues with simple things like notification tones.

The heavier battery drain since JellyBean I can live with, but the constant audio reminder that my phone firmware is buggy just gets on my nerves on a daily basis.

Is there a way to go back to the JellyBean 4.3 firmware without receiving constant nags that there is a firmware update available? Or better still, is there any chance Z1 users can get a fixed firmware in the near future?

I'm really beginning to wish I'd bought a different phone instead of picking the Z1.

Hi there, I've noticed when my alarm goes that something along these lines occurs, the first few hundred mS play several times before it kicks in properly. When I have a mo I'll work where the audio file is stored and play it to see if it's corrupted or a system playback issue, I suspect the latter, I have a post on this forum about audio issues when listening to music.

So I copied my pond.ogg alarm clock tone to the pc. It plays perfectly there.

None of the apps on my z1 are able to play it without hiccups, generally when starting but it is a short clip so not good for duration test
test.

Maybe the main problem is a too smaller audio buffer.

As I see, many of the standard in-built notification tones do not play without a stutter/crackle. It's not just one tone. Only sometimes it plays ok, most times it stutters.

J

P.S.: Even the low battery warning tone has a crackle/stutter on my phone.
