google problem

when i click on google the page opens and then immediately closes and returns to sony m home page. At the top left corner a symbol appears for a keyboard which also disappears almost immediately

What can I do to resolve this ?

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I suggest that you go to Settings > Apps > The tab "All" > Google Search > Clear data, restart your phone and try again. If the problem persist, you could try to uninstall updates for Google Search which also is done via Settings > Apps > The tab "All" > Google Search > Uninstall updates.

You can update Google Search via Google Play afterwards to see if this can help.

I uninstalled all of the updates for google search and that fixed the problem, but I guess the update reinstalled and, like chrism71, the google search app crashes immediately upon opening. I expect the answer to be that there's an update coming from either Sony or Google that will address this problem as I can't be expected to just roll back to the installed version of Google Search for the duration...
