I cannot figure out what could be.Usually,if it is not a screen protector or a case,it could be an antivirus or another app.

Sorry pressed submit before logging message. Greetings to you all, new owner of a z1 compact here.
Recently upgraded contract from htc to the compact, just couldn't take to the size of the new htc one and the compact fitted the bill. However i have found one rather annoying issue which on a search have not been able to find an answer to.
During a call the screen goes blank due to the proximity sensor. When the call ends the screen does not come back on and I am unable to either make a further call, end the current one from my end or use phone. There is a screen guard but this does not cover the sensor, and I do not use an attached case as I prefer a pouch style case. I have tried to setting the display time out to 5 mins and 10 mins to see if that helps but it keeps resetting back to 1 min. It appears that the phone does not recognize the end of a call and remains as a black screen. I have tried to be patient and wait for the screen to wake up and tried pressing the power button. Grateful for any ideas. Phone is running kit kat

Hi there,

Can you confirm that your proximity sensor works properly?

Make sure that a proximity sensor is clean, and then:

Dial(phone app) *#*#7378423#*#* > Servise Tests > Proximity Switch (test it).

Keep us updated.

Thanks for your reply, I did as suggested, tapped on 'proximity switch'. Phone beeps twice and shows a black screen with 'Proximity switch OFF' in the middle. No option to test or turn on or off as far as I can see, just back and home buttons visible. Is this correct?
Regards

You have to cover the sensor and see if it says on.

Oh, yes, that works! So what causes the phone to not wake up when it is removed from ear at the end of a call if the proximity sensor is working, as it appears to be from the test?

Ok, thanks alexdon. I do not think it is anti virus as I run avast and do not download 3rd party apps, phone is quite new, under a month old. I will look at my current downloaded apps to see if there is a conflict. There does appear to be an issue as others are reporting same.
Further, my screen display time out keeps reverting to 1 min, each time I set it for longer, it reverts. Any ideas?
