Wow Sony you really need to fix your camera software like right now,this phone can't even compete properly with the 13mp cameras on the market yet you market it as the best camera on an android phone!Who ever is head of the mobile division in dealing with the software needs to get their head from out the clouds it is shameful that in a camera shootout the Z2 only manages to beat an iphone 5s http://www.gsmarena.com/reviewcomm-1104.php.Please Sony hire someone who knows how to write proper software especially for your camera your hardware isn't the problem.

i have been saying and saying that sony camera software is bad its so poor that it cannot beat Chinese brands who uses sony sensors the main problem is the software in z z1 z1c and z2 the hardware is top notch

see superior auto is not that intelligent when taking in low light or indoor light it increases the iso and exposure so high the pictures are noisy and grainy plus it has so much poor processing behind it

and in manual mode when setting the iso less eg.at 100 the noise is less but because of poor processing the images dont have details in it

so needs to fix this issue because in every new update is a bad experience with the camera when i bought the phone z1 daylight pictures were good now i am on 4.4.4 i have repaired showed it to service center they repaired the software with their trick but the camera experience more poor on 4.4.4 i see no improvements in any updates

also you might want to see this z2 cannot beat lg g3 and oppo find 7 because z2 is the second best in hardware in this comparison but lg g3 and oppo find 7 has better software they beat z2

but I agree in this topic. I have had Samsung S3 before and I often used it to take photos which had to be printable. It always worked. The higher resolution of the Xperia Z2-cam at least was the reason not to buy a Samsung again. Yet I'm dissapointed. Different trials showed pics on the z2-screen which seemed to be sharp. Back home I took them to photoshop and was nearly shocked: They are all out of focus, unusable except for watching them on the z2-screen

Have to agree z2 camera is a joke my previous phone a Samsung s4 was so much better.even my s2 was. Have to agree sony need to fix this. I will state again the canera is shocking as for the zoom that's even worse. I phone 6 for me next year.shame as like the phone but I need a good camera on my phone and Sony it's crap fact

I found something opposite.
First, I do not rely on reviews on Internet as it is really easy to cheat and not show the reality.
Please note pany of these reviews are paid like benchmarks are paid by Shamesung. It's the same.

Other than that, did anyone noticed that the file size ot taken pictures is bigger now?
It means the compression level is lower which should help to take better pictures

I can see that 8MPx picture is taking a little above 5MB and 15,5MPx picture is taking little above 8MB.
Did you noticed it as well?

Remember like we all wanted higher MPx in 16:9 mode because it was available for 8MPx only?
We get it.

I would like to add something about overheating during making video.
I think Sony for sure is awared of this and working on solution, however needs some time like everything in life for development and testing. Other brands are limiting 4K video recording to 5mins which means they are experiencing the same issue, so it is rather not manufacturing issue.

I hope they will solve it soon and provide us with a fix, as well as will improve the algorithms for camera.

yes, you're right: all the tests may bring the best result for cams theproducer paid for. but i can tell you: i don't need any test. i see the result on my own. and that is f**** sh***. i bought exactly this mobile cause of the cam. i don't need any "walkman" or one of all the other functions. i wanted the mobile phone with one of the best existing cams. this cam isn't worth what we've paid for.

Why shooting in RAW is important? Why do you want to shoot somethng than load it onto a PC to correct the colour and lighting? Don't you know that a RAW file eat up more of you storage? Furthermore, the pictures you saw are "tweaked"! Using a computer after shooting.

"Note that each DNG picture is adjusted for white balance, exposure, highlights & shadows, sometimes also whites & blacks in Lighroom, and a couple have a slight clarity boost, while the swan picture has some added color vibrance, according to Simmond who tweaked the images."

I suggest you buy a DSLR camera instead of a smartphone or even a point & shoot.

Did a little comparison myself, in between Superior Auto, full Manual and tried using Google's stock camera app.
If you look at the top of the bins (or tree leaves) in the picture, its clear that google's stock app is producing the best results. Too bad google's option doesnt give any control over your images.

I'd say the Superior mode is actually the worst. I wonder what are sony software engineers actually doing then...
Would like to test how other camera apps perform here.

did some more tests today and found out that superior auto mode, when trying to correct distortion, sometimes blurs the image way too much. So to avoid this its better to shoot in Manual but leave the 8mpix 16:9 size.

heres the proof. Both photos have exactly the same shooting settings:
