I fixed my sms notification by installing a 3rd party sms app.TwiceNightly's method worked on gosms. In gosms ther is a test notification function. While.playing testing your notification hit the volume up button. Ypu will see the slider go up. On the default messenger this didn't work. As for music volume, check your smart connect events. I adjusted the events and now when i plug in my headphones its already set to my preferred volume. When my sms notification was fixed, my ringing volume got fixed too. Both my speakers now work when I'm getting a call.

I now know why sony won't acknowledge the soind problems. They aren't defective, just really hard to adjust. I hope they do something more user-friendly on the next update.

The volume level for text notifications is much lower than my ringtone.

As an experiment I set the same mp3 as the ringtone and text notification sound. This confirmed that the text notification I am receiving is significantly lower than my ringtone which is set to maximum.

How can I increase this volume level?

Text notification volume level is fine in safe mode although the mp3 file gets truncated after a second.

On rebooting I received a text straight away and the volume level was as it should be, but after a minute of being on the volume level had dropped down again.

I did a few more tests and I'm still bemused but have managed to replicate the fault and find a trigger for the low volume but not a cause.

It would appear that after a reboot the text message notification is as it should be at normal level. I can receive many texts without issue but as soon as I send any text, all subsequent text notifications suffer from low volume. This is regardless of whichever sms text messenger is used.

This fault has been present from day one of using the phone before any third party apps were installed appart from operator specific app or mods. Operator: O2 UK

Is this issue likely to be solved by a SW update by Sony?

Great phone but pointless having a great phone in your pocket if you cant hear it.

I note that when playing the SMS sounds in a music player, they are reasonable in volume, when been played via a SMS app then they are woefull.

Surely a SW bug?

Having had the phone for a week now, I have to say that the volume of the ringer and notifications are way too low. On the other hand I am more than satisfied with the music volume and in call volume, although I do think the call quality is not that good, but that could be that in my area the reception isn't that great (Network 3- UK)

I'm hoping that Sony gets a fix on the ringer/Notification volume issue soon as its very poor even vs the Z or Z1

So it apears to be affect Z2s in general having seen posts on other forums

After much playing about i'm still stumped. Sometime the sms volume notification level is as it should be and at other times it's at 25% of the volume. There seems to be no discernible pattern.

It's not related to the messaging app, i've tried a few and the problem is identical in all.

Many manufacturers have volume profiling options which adjust the volume according to the environment. I usually turn them off due to their reliability and issues like the current one. I can find no settings within the Z2 for similar functions. Does Sony implement similar features and if so can they be turned off?

looks like typical software glitch... My Z2 ringtone is connected with txt and facebook notifications, the media volume is paired only with walkman, album and camera wake-up sound (which I don't pretty like, cause everyone around knows the photo will be taken... specially not wanted when in school and I want to make a shoot of something on the board, still after a bag to sony there is no option to turn it OFF like the shutter sound).

I have exactly the same problem: The notification sound of my XperiaZ2 is way lower than it should be and it cannot be adjusted up.

It has to be fixed soon, but it seems a typical software error since the sound is brilliant when I open a music player and listen to the same notification sound then - then it is loud and clear.

When I receive a message, then the very same sound become much lower.

My ringer and SMS notifications seem plenty loud enough. However, when listening to music with headphones the notifications are extremely low. I am wondering if somehow the ringer and notifications are sometimes inheriting the media volume instead of the ringer/notifications volume.

I also noticed that the first day or so I had the phone my alarm was very quiet, even at the highest setting. Since then, though, the loudest setting scares the crap out of me and I have it set to about half. Seems a firmware fix would solve all of this.
