I'm with giffgaff a UK virtual network who use O2's masts etc, there is no 4g where I am but good 3g coverage, I'm on unlimited data tariff so want to keep data on, I did choose the 3rd option in network mode settings but it jumps back to option one, you've said this is normal which is good but I do get a bit confused.

My phone has a 4g capable sim card in it but in mobile networks....... Network mode setting I have 3 choices
4(prefered) /WCDMA/GSM
WCDMA ONLY
WCDMA (Prefered) /GSM
If I choose the 3rd option WCDMA (preferred) /GSM it stays on it for a while then it changes to 4(Preferred) /WCDMA/GSM without me doing anything? Does anyone know why this is happening ? Maybe it's normal but I'm not sure, cheers.

That's normal, that your phone goes to LTE (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM

Thanks, why does it do that? We don't have 4g in my area yet? Does it use more battery?

4G does use more battery, your phone will look for the best connection, if you are in a poor network coverage area you might consider to turn off your data, also you might want to check with your carrier/network, they might be able to give you other APN settings
