Hi,

About a week ago I bought an unbranded Xperia SP from Currys running 4.1.2. Having read that Sony has released at least for over a month the 4.3 I expected to update immediately, but unfortunately I have not received yet a single update from the date I have purchased my phone... Is there something wrong or what?

Also there is another issue. I am currently with 3 UK in an unlimited data plan including free 4G but I can't get anywhere in Edinburgh 4G signal, nor there is an option for 4G Network Mode in settings... Although if I take the sim out the option appears for some reason. Any idea??

Thanks
Angelos

4G is disabled on 3 until you update. Others have posted on here with exactly the same problem.

You can either wait for 3 to get round to releasing it, or you can manually update yourself:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658952

If you follow the steps on XDA you shouldn't lose warranty as you don't have to unlock the bootloader or root.

You will still get future updates from Sony, but be aware that if you flash, say, the Australian firmware, you will get future Aus updates. If you back up your original firmware as described, then you can of course always re-flash and get UK updates again.

Before you do anything, it might be better to go back to Currys and ask them if it's only a couple of days old. You could change it for something that isn't Sony and actually *is* 4G ready out of the box.

OK some news.

I managed to manually update to 4.3 without routing or boot unlocking, I kept everything stock. So here are my remarks :

1: Even though I read many negative things about 4.3 , it seems its working perfectly fine for me, although at the beginning it feels a bit slow and lagging slightly byt as the time passes I have the feeling that it gets smoother...

2: 4G works now!

3: I downloaded a Greek version ftf as I am Greek I suppose that's not going to create any issues?

Well unsurprisingly so far so good!

I take it you went with the .201 build that came out this week - that one's OK. It's the earlier .266 that many people had problems with.

I does get smoother after a couple of reboots.

But, cool - you now have 4G.

Try uninstalling and disabling the apps you don't use.

I usually have around 250-300MB free RAM - pretty much the same as 4.1.2. I couldn't browse the internet and listen to music at the same time on 4.2.1., but it's not a problem on 4.3.

As long as apps aren't crashing out the numbers aren't that important.

You'll get Greek releases through PCC and SUS, not sure you get OTA updates from Three. Shouldn't cause you any problems though.

setting->apps->all

Built in stuff you uninstall updates, then disable. Other stuff you can just uninstall completely.

I did Antutu tests too (sad, but true!) - but they were very similar: 22421 for 4.1.2. and 22525 for the latest.
