My phone will not start up. When I switch on the phone, I get the Sony logo, then the Xperia logo, then animated smoke and then a black screen. This will be repeated until I press the power button and volume button simultaneously.

I am not the first one with this question, but I don't find the solution for my problem. Anyone here who knows?

Try this:charge the phone for 2 hours, force shutdown(power button+vol up until the phone vibrates 3 times).Do not turn it on.Download SUS and repair:

Thanks, I'm gonna try that. First question of the UpdateService: do I have a Z1 (SO-01F) or a Z1 (SOL23) or a Z1 (C6916) Something to sort out first.

And tried - not a solution I am afraid. The most recent software is on the phone, nothing to do. And than the question if I want to throw away my pictures, the mailsystem from work etc. No, off course I don't want to throw away all that is valuable from my phone. Since it won't start, I can not make a backup. No other way than to reinstall all the software and lose all data? I so hoped never to get a Microsoft feeling again.

I hate my Sony allready. But it does start. And since everything on it is gone, it is absolute useless. The standard phone at my company is de Samsung 4s. I feel an absolute fool for choosing the Sony instead. Anyway, thanks for helping out.

Thanks for asking. The phone is back were it was at day one - minus the mailsystem, calender and adresbook from work. Thus, yes, it is back into action. First thing to do now is buy myself a memory card. I thought I did not need one the first weeks. How wrong I was.
