Does anyone know which one has a bigger user base, E or E1? I read somewhere that updates may cease for a phone if chip manufacturers stop providing support for newer software updates. E1's chipset is different from that of E. So, may be Qualcomm has stopped its support for Xperia E's 'Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon'. Or may be Sony just considers E a dead weight. I sent an email to Sony support asking whether plans are underway for 4.4 for E, and the reply was the generic "....so we can't tell you the exact date....."

'Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon' was released in 2011. So I doubt if Qualcomm would stop support so soon.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/16/qualcomm-announces-a-slew-of-new-snapdragon-processors-upgrades/

http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a7227a&c=qualcomm_msm7227a

Well, at least E1 gets the 4.4.

Sony has confirmed 4.4 KitKat for E1. But no report regarding E or even bigger ones like SP. I wish I had waited a little longer and bought E1, but who knew Sony would, for no convincing reason, quickly bring up E1 to replace E.
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2014/03/19/new-sony-software-upgrade-including-android-4-4-kitkat-rolls-for-xperia-z-ultra-xperia-z1-and-xperia-z1-compact/
