The bottom cap can be safely removed, just drag it a little tougher.

I want to change the black bottom cap for my XPERIA P and replace it with a red one. How would I take the cap off without damaging anything on the phone and put the new one on so it sticks on to it without it being loose.

Use the Xperia S disasembly guide here as they are built the same only the P is smaller in size - Hopefully this will guide you safe disasembly and show you how to remove the cap you mentioned

Thanks for that, but I don't want to take everything apart. I just want the cap off.

Don't know then - Try a sharp knife to prise it off due to the glue - That's why it gets stripped down so when you do prise it apart there's no chance of damage to fixings etc

Xperia P cap claps on the bottom without adhesive and screws, you only need to release the bayonet mount inside carefully and remove the cap easily. And then put the new cover on.
