Hi,

Since a few days i'm experiencing a really terrible sound when i make or recieve a call. It's all distortioned and i can barely make up what they are saying. I don't recall dropping the phone or something like that, but i have just started using the bluetooth connection with my car radio to make calls.

Could there be something wrong by doing this?

When i make a call with bluetooth in the car, or with using the speaker function of the phone, or when i plug in a headset, everything is perfect. It's just that internal front speaker...

Thx!

Bart

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

That sounds strange. A bluetooth connection should not affect the ear speaker, I suggest that you download the application "Xperia Diagnostics" and test the ear speaker. You can find this application at Google Play.

Thanks for the welcome and the fast response!

I've tried it with the diagnostics tool but the sound is the same... It will probably be the speaker itself then i suppose.

Hope something like that is covered by the warranty?

If the sound is the same via diagnostics, I would suggest that you try with a factory reset on your unit. But if the problem persist, it sounds more like a hardware issue.

It's hard for me to answer if it's a warranty case or not. Often, the phone needs to be examined by a technician which can conclude if it's a manufacturing error or not. I suggest that you contact your local support team for further information about nearest service center and how to proceed with this in the best possible way:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/contact-info/

My warranty was already expired so i opened up the phone up myself. It's not that hard, there's just one piece that's glued and you just have to be really carefull and pry with something in between that piece untill it loosens, really gently of course!

Removed the speaker (clicked out) and cleaned it with compressed air and contact spray, put it al back together and it's working again.

I am aware that my phone isn't going to be IP67 anymore, but that's ok. It will still be able to take some rain or the occasional spill!

Just wanted to post this so when other people encouter the same problems they know that this is a (last) option...
