Phone: Sony Xperia S

Firmware: 6.2.B.1.96

Android: 4.1.2

I've found since the last firmware update on this phone that, some of the time, it can take up to a couple of minutes between choosing a number to phone in the Contacts and the phone actually starting the call. While the phone's CPU can be tied up doing other things, all other operations on the phone occur much more rapidly than this.

When I select the number, the screen holds. It'll still go to energy saving mode after a few seconds, and lock a few seconds later, and I can unlock the phone which returns it to the home screen though that screen will lock until the phone call starts.

My phone still has around 300MB available on phone storage, and about 11GB free on Internal. It can happen in a mixture of situations, with wireless on and connected, wireless on but not connected, data service on, data service and wireless off.

Is this a firmware issue? While it's awesome that the phone does lots of awesome extra tricks, mainly it's a phone. Surely making a phone call should supercede all other processes.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Richard

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I would suggest that you try to boot your phone into safe mode to see if the problem may be related to any 3rd party app that you have installed in your phone:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008#U348008

If the behavior is the same in safe mode I would suggest that you try to reinstall/repair the phone software using PC Companion:

http://www.sonymobile.com/update

In PC Companion, press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phone/tablet software > Press the blue link that says "Repair phone/tablet".

Before repairing the software in your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/Backup-amp-Transfer/m-p/407253#U407253
