Hmm. I don't know. Look at post #8 here. Suggests using an older version of Flashtool.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2376539

I'm on Windows 7, so it may not work with Vista. I know there are issues with Windows 8 too.

There's a link to SEMC USB drivers in post #2 here. That may be worth a try.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263221

Interesting - What version of Flashtools are you using, I know earlier version are now giving errors with new firmware, Also before downgrading were you rooted and was there a issue with your phone ie:Bad kernal or boot sector corrupt as the part which allows Flashing may be corrupted - Try Fastboot and if it boots into fastboot then consider using a img not .ftf to flash your phone

Un-rooted and I am not sure what version it is. Pretty sure it is the newer one of Flashtool. I'll have to try that fastboot method.

Do you have Sony PC Companion or SUS installed? If not, then do. A reboot might be in order afterwards.

Sounds like you're maybe missing the USB drivers.

I've had problems with flashtool saying it can't find SEMC drivers then crashing the pc. What solved it for me was to start the pc in safe mode with networking enabled so internet access is available. Then instead of crashing the drivers are installed; following that the pc can be booted as normal and flashtool should work as hoped.

Dave
