If you want a smaller than five inch screen and stay up to date, you don't really have a lot of options with sony. Personally I wouldn't go for Xperia L, M or M2. If you don't mind the size T2 Ultra may be a good choice, but I am not sure if it's released. If you can choose a more expensive model free of charge, then any of the Z series phones probably will suit your needs. As for the other poster saying, it is not 1g g2 it is LG g2. The LG brand's 2013 flagship model. It's a nice one but if I was gonna go for other brand I'd probably choose HTC.

Thank you also, ogu,

I appreciate your feed back, Im really not that up to date when it comes to deciding on a new mobile, I norm go with what either my sons have, then its tween my daughter and daughter in laws, as it happens at present one side has Sony Xperia's SP daughter has the Samsung Galaxy, I plumped for the Sony Xperia SP because it was one of my sons put me onto Sony Ericcison years ago, and ive always liked them, my daughter thinks her Samsung is less complicated and a better all round phone, I dont find the Sony complicated at all, and liked it, it just gave me so much trouble this last one, that its now put doubt in my mind as to getting another of the same to replace it, though I must say to go on looks I prefer the Sony to the Samsung.

Ive been reading the reviews on HTC and yes seemingly its way out there on top, but ive never owned one of that make and would be very unsure.

Well except for a very basic one years ago, when it wasnt touch screens then.

What is your opinion on the Sony Xperia, especially the SP model, any info there, would I be wise to replace it with same or steer clear?

Sorry to be a pain, but I do take into consideration everything you care to share with me and thank you so much for doing so.

Also, Ive been reading the lastest reviews on Sony phones and they arent getting top marks at all, anything but.

Samsung is doing much better, no bad reviews at all, wereas Sony's were awful.

This is another pointer that makes me hesitant to replace with same one.

In your position I definitely wouldn't be looking at another Sony. I haven't had any major issues with my SP, but it's just very average in all departments. The whole update debacle has been very off-putting too.

As an alternative, it depends what your budget is. If you can, try and trade up to a flagship model - the LG G2 (what I should have bought), or the very similar Nexus 5, HTC One, Samsung S4 etc. Probably best to visit a phone shop and get an idea of what the build quality is like.

You are welcome.

Your children can actually pick a good mobile for you, I choose my parents' phones, too. Since I know what they could handle and probably your sons and daughters know about your needs as well, so I'd trust their opinion. But if you want to choose one yourself it is really not that hard. It all comes to what you need, what you do with your phone and your budget. So are you a music lover? Do you prefer android, do you watch a lot of video on the phone, do you video-chat, do you install a lot of apps, is camera important, is material used for the phone and weight of it important, do you want to handle your phone one handedly or would you like a bigger screen, do you care about software updates or you just need a phone that works? Etc. After deciding what you want with the phone choosing is easier. If you could give us your budget, the screen size you want and what you do with your phone mostly, then we might be able to give you better ideas.

I did not own HTC either but I've heard good things about it and the HTC One series phones look just as good as Sony.

SP is my first android actually. I like it but it is not without its problems. Hardware is good, looks of it is quite unique and it is pretty sturdy. But altough it is powerful enough it countinues to surprise me with lags from time to time. There are touch issues when placed horizontally and I am not touching the frame. Music playback quality is OK at best. Camera is not that good but I don't really care :). Game performance is good I guess, but sometimes stutters here and there and phone gets really hot. I like the look and feel of the user interface ( I also like the white menu that came with 4.3, it helps sunlight legibility.)

But would I get the same phone if I was replacing it? I am not sure. Would I buy it again if I went back in time? I would but if the price was a good 25-30% less. I probably wouldn't replace it with another SP after a lot of problems but I'd give a second chance to Sony with their Z series if they would let me choose any model I want free of charge. I've heard mostly good things about Z1 Compact, Z2, Z Ultra and ZR. But if you are gonna pay more, you can try other brands. I wouldn't go for Samsung, though. They look like slippers.

And like I said, if you want a successor to SP you can't find it with Sony. All midrange models that came out this year are not that great in my opinion and they won't be much of an upgrade over SP.

Motorola's Moto G is a good price/performance balance. Google's Nexus 5 is also a good balance, especially if you can get it from play store. And these two have pure Android, which resembles Xperia's software interface so you wouldn't feel like a stranger. LG's G2 is a nicely done package, too with OIS camera and bezelless design. But if you want the very top of the top I think you have only three choices form known brands: Sony Xperia Z2, HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5.

Also, not a pain at all I would be glad if I'd be any help.

Seems they wont let me exchange for a different phone, Im having a job trying to even get them to replace it, its away back again for the 4th time to their repair place, they said it will go to the top technician which they have told me before, it goes apparently to the lowest one first then moves up the ladder every time it goes back again with same fault.

Baloney, I think personally.

Ive told them in no uncertain terms I dont want it back, I want it replaced, one of them has promised a replacement if they see it is faulty this time, Ive lost faith in them, so I cant believe that to be true, I have his name though so I shall quote him as next next for me is trading standards.

Thanks all the same for your great input, it was all very much appreciated.

Lordbless
