camera button not working full stop

Hi,my phone is a few days old,since having said phone is z1 compact,I.cannot take a picture with my camera button if my phone is on nevermind sleep mode,I have tried changing all the settings..the only way of taking a pic is touching the screen button..is there a fault here? My front camera managed to go black while trying out a selfie..also is the front camera , an image flipper? Everything reversed? Really disappointed s far with this phone..I have a button which is redundant what can I do? it's a £400 phone that is unable to take a pic with the dedicated button.

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

When you try take the picture are you getting a clicking sound? if you are have you tried holding the key down harder after the first initial clicking sound.
