Hello,

I am thimking of using a Xperia M dual in Japan but I am confused about the phone ability to handle the networks here.

I want to use 1 SIM for voice+SMS only and another SIM for data only. Normally that wouldn't be a problem but Japan doesn't have GSM networks so even my voice SIM would need to connect to a W-CDMA (3G) network.

How will the phone handle that?

I am ok if I can't use both SIMs at the same time but will standby work on both SIMs at the same time?

Any info appreciated.

Dual standby means only one SIM can work at a time, one can go on WCDMA and the other on GSM only.

Thank you for your answer but it is still not clear for me.

I know that only 1 SIM at a time can be active. My question is about standby. Is it possible to have both SIM in standby on WCDMA at the same time? Or is having 1 SIM in standby on WCDMA forces the other to be GSM only?

No,only one can be on WCDMA at a time. The other must be on GSM only. And you should set the first SIM to WCDMA.
