I've been having a huge problem with the sound on my phone. A few examples are: when my music is playing, there is no sound. The phone also won't record my voice. It has the recording but it's complete silence. The same is with video and YouTube. You can see the picture, but you can't hear the audio. This is a new problem from what I can tell. I got it in September 2013, about 4 months ago, brand-new. There should nee no reason that it isn't working and I'm getting fairly frustrated with it. If someone could please tell me how to go about getting this problem fixed, I would very happy. Thank you

Have you tried a software repair until now?If you repair and do not fix the issue,it means hardware is the problem.

This is a known problem this happens when you remove the headphone without pausing music. So in future first pause the music then remove the headphone to avoid such problems.

I have an Xperia SP (unrooted) and after updating to 4.3, I started to experience issues with the earpiece and loudspeaker.

After some time, the sound that should be coming from the loudspeaker (e.g. Ringer, Alarm) is re routed to the earpiece. Hence, whenever the phone rings, I can barely hear the sound since it comes out from the earpiece.

After a restart, this problem disappears only to come back after using voip applications like Viber and Skype.

I already did a factory reset as well as repair via SEUSS and the problem is still there.

This is no longer a hardware issue as I searched online and found out from other Xperia owners (Z, Z1, etc...) that they too are experiencing the same issues.

I am too disappointed with Sony (they should know better as they once excelled with Audio products), and this could be my last purchase from them.

Here are the most annoying issues I had with my SP:

Botches or black dots present in the camera -- this was evident as other Xperia owners also had this problem.

Battery life drain -- stamina mode is absolutely useless.

Sound issue -- Xperia phones are having trouble recognizing earpiece and loudspeaker.

So Sony, pull your acts together if you want to survive the smartphone business.

Else, better stick to what you do best: making rice cookers and other kitchenwares.

I had a similar problem. My son plugged his ear phone in my Xperia C2104 and used it to see some videos. After that when I used the phone without the ear phones, there was no sound, and I on calls, I could not hear the ring tone or the party on the other side. I had to use the speaker button to hear the ring tone and the called party.

I just re-plugged the ear phone, played FM radio, stopped FM, removed the ear phones and all seems well.

I had this problem when my phone was new and plugging in and unplugging the headphones firmly a couple of times cured it.

I know a lot of people are suggesting it's a software/firmware problem but I think it's just the tiny microswitch inside the headphone socket sticking slightly . I once had the same problem with a 1980s cassette player and the fix was exactly the same. There weren't any firmware updates for those........
Stop it and remove the headphone.. 😉
