Hi all,

Looking for some feedback as to why this is happening.

When I first got the Sony Xperia Z1 (also the Z), I could listen to music without my message tone disturbing it. Now, whenever I listen to music and receive messages, the music is dimmed and the tone is played. If I play around with the message settings and turn off the option 'Notifications' (Status bar) option, this stops completely BUT, I do not recieve the little message icon in the status bar.

I have never had this problem before with either phone. Tested out both, walkman and Google play music apps. Never happened before but now it does in both apps. Has there been an update that has put this 'functionality' into the phone?

My girlfriend has the same phone and she is not experiencing this.

Unfortunately, no luck.

Yes, it is when I connect headphones. Are there some settings I need to apply when I clear the data for the smart connect app?

My phone is on silent while I have my headphones in and it still plays the notifcation sound

Same thing happens.

I never had this problem before so I'm a bit stumped as to why it's happening now?

So let's recap:

I've tried playing around with the notifications settings
I've cleared the data for smart connect

Hard restarted my phone (pressing all buttons)

Tried different ringer modes

Tried both players

You can backup your data first using PC Companion from the below link. Just install/open it, click the Backup & Restore function then follow the prompts:

Have finally gotten around to doing this reset and it's still there. Tell me, has Google Play, Sony Walkman and Spotify all resorted to allowing notification sounds over music play now or is this still a bug? Spent a while setting up my phone again and now this is happening.

Never happened before... Unless that was a bug in itself that I appreciated.

Also, touch screen problems. Going to write text messages and it comes up with foreign characters and won't respond to touch. Rather annoying. Got the new update this morning and these issue still exist even after a reset too.

Please help

I think this was actually a change in the way Android deals with incoming notifications when the user is listening to music etc.

Think this is referred to as ducking.

I originally thought that too but my partner has the same phone and hers does not interrupt music playback... This seems to be a bug with either my phone, or hers.
