Screen broke

My outer screen broke a few weeks ago and sony told me that I must pay 280$ for digitizer
, LCD screen, and the whole housing
Can I buy a separate digitizer from amazon and then apply it separately or the digitizer is glued to the LCD screen ?

I heard that it is very difficult to change only the digitizer,because it is connected to the LCD.Also,it needs a firm hand to do it.So,if you want,you can search on ebay,you fill find cheaper pieces,but you will need to do all the work.

@Alexdon can I Just buy the digitizer from eBay or amazon and then just give it to sony and then they do the work for me ?
