Large size folder in internal storage

I've some folders in internal storage eating up my internal storage. Is it ok to delete it?. Please help. 1gb is too much.

Its the DCIM'S thumbnails folder....ya u can delete it..infact i just deleted it in XL...after deleting check lost.dir folder and delete the file in it if exists..

Yes,delete thumbnails and lost.dir,restart.It should be ok.

Ok. I deleted it. Now the size of dcim folder is reduced.

But, check the used space of sdcard. It's same. I didn't gain any extra space. How? The files are arranged in the descending order of their size. So the usage space must be roughly around 2.5 gb.

Did u delete the files in ur lost.dir folder and restart the phone ??

I can't find any lost folder in the internal storage. Yes, I've restarted my phone twice.

Akhi,its good that you have deleted the folder.But here's the twist,the Android OS will create another .thumbdata3 file each time you delete it.So you must first create a clone/dummy file.

Yes it is permanent.But if you check at Settings > Storage > Internal storage,it will still shows 1GB(or so)for Photos and Videos.But no worries,that means the dummy file has fooled Android and doing its work well.

I checked the dcim folder again. But there's no thumbsdata file now. But storage is still being used as before.

No it is okay,all you have to know that the Android OS will keep on creating the .thumbnail folder untill you created that dummy/clone file.Have you did that?

If you have did it,then it is fine,Android has been fooled,you might see it took up space,but actually no,you already have that 1GB free from Internal Storage.

I still didn't do that procedure coz thumbsdata files are nowhere to be found.

Hahaha it because you already have deleted it my friend,continue with the next step,create the two dummy file with the name:

1) .thumbdata3-01763508120

2) .thumbdata3--1967290299

Thanks. But, I don't think that is the problem now coz, as you said in settings> storage> pictures and videos size is reduced to few mb.
Turns out I've apps close to 3.5 gb. But as you can see in the pic before 'android' folder is only 2 gb. How's that possible? All apps are installed in only that folder right!!?

Not necessarily.Because some apps like WeChat and WhatsApp creates their own folder.Android folder only keeps the data that is being used by a launcher or app.More like a game,its app launcher is installed somewhere in the Internal Storage but its Game data is stored in Android under Data folder,to be exact.

Ashroft, thumbnails folders are back again. Now if I create dummy file, well it increase the available space(mine is 5.37gb) or decrease used space?
Why I am asking is,
Apps - 3.9gb
Others- 0.2 gb
Pictures and videos- 1 gb
Used space -4.1gb
Free space- 1.3gb.
This doesn't seem to add up. Confused!!
