I have a problem with the proximity sensor from day 1:
- Proximity sensor registers an object in proximity when it shouldn't.
Results:
- As soon as a call is made/answered the screen turns off - does not turn on again.
- Diagnostic test shows that sensor is "always on"
Observations:
- When pointing sensor to direct sunlight sensor will change to "off". When it is pointed away it goes "on" again
- After wiping vigorously problem sometimes stops - sensor works properly for a while.
- After reboot sometimes problem is temporarily resolved.
- I am not using screen protector.
- I am using latest edition of firmware from SEUS.
- Reinstalled latest FW from SEUS (factory reset) - problem persists.

If you have a case on the phone, I suggest removing it and testing as well. Failing that as stated by Alexdon getting the handset to a service centre would be the best way to proceed.

I have supplied a link below, this will allow you to find correct region contact details.

I have the EXACT same problem on my Xperia SP. Erratic performance of sensor, often fails to turn off and stays black after a phone call. Will briefly work correctly after vigorously wiping to the sensor. Very frustrating. What is the quickest way to fix this??
