Hi, My nam is Richard and I have recently purchased a Z1, but can't get the photograph file size above 8MB. When I set it at 20.7MP with dimensions of 5248x3936, the file size does not get above 8MB. I'm not sure what the MP to MB conversion is. Is <8MB correct for a 20.7 MP file ? The image dimensions for my shots come out at 5248x3936. I appreciate that large MB files are harder to transfer, but I will be transfering them by hard-wire to my PC most of the time.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Yes,sony tend to overcompress pictures,so it is very ok 7-8 MB.8MP camera gives 1-2 MB photos,so just think about it(on my Xperia P).

Check this.

that because the photoes are highly compressed, like 80% or something ridiculas like that. Unlike samsung or others which offer different level of jpeg compression normal, fine and super fine which is around 50% which have much less compression artifacts. They got trash to **bleep** by many reviews and user with their crappy image processing and compression but they still decide to stick their head in they and pretend nothing happen. For a so call camera phone not only that the camera software is embarassing (20 MP camera with only 8MP auto mode? seriously?) They quality is sub par.

Just to give you an idea, my old S3 in super fine mode 8MP file size ranges around 3.5+ MB, Z1 rarely ever get above 3 MB at all. There is not magic in sony jpeg compression, its just that they are too compressed. As soon as you zoom into the photos everything falls apart and become super pixelated.

Yes, thats the biggest issue with the Z1. Not the sensor (which is a beast) or the lenses (even better).... its the overcompression of BIONZ that is messing up the pictures.

I dont know how many more complaints and requestes they need to realize the software is killing the amazing camera they mounted in the Z1.... when????
