Me and my girlfriend both have Arc since a few weeks ago. My phone works fine, but hers begun rebooting randomly a few days ago. Tried using Update Service yesterday, no apps installed from Market, and also to take out the memory card, but it rebooted today again. Any clues to why this is??

I had my recently charged phone (~98% battery) lying on the table next to me. Suddenly I noticed that the screen showed "Sony Ericsson" and after 1 minute or so the startup animation started.. This is the first time the phone has rebooted itself, has anyone else had any issues?

there's another thread in this forum about this issue as well but i forgot what the title is. and alot of people have also reported this issue on xda developers. users don't usually notice this reboot unless the put the phone on the table infront of them the whole day. its kinda difficult to narrow down the cause since it reboots even when you're not using the phone. =x

This started to happen to me yesterday!

The reason I noticed it is that I have a PIN lock on my SIM so when it has rebooted itself it can't just carry on as if nothing has happened as I have to input my PIN!

I then kept an eye on it and it has been rebooting all day today! It's a nightmare as no-one can then get through to me! I called my service provider who said to try SIM in another phone so currently with out my beloved Arc

Looking at this post and some of the others I doubt very much it's the SIM!

HELP please

Ok Sony Ericsson, enough is enough!!!

I've been the proud owner of a Xperia arc for exactly 2 weeks now. I love it in every way, except for the fact its started randomly REBOOTING!!!!

It was fine for about 10 days, then has started doing this ever since, at least 4 or 5 times a day. Today is probably the worst so far as its rebooted 3 times in 5 minutes! I've followed the suggestions posted elsewhere and upgraded the firmware to version 3.0.A.2.184, but has made no difference.

From the posts here and elsewhere on the web, it appears that I'm not alone in having this problem. Does anyone have a solution, else I'm (reluctantly) on verge of returning my phone as faulty.

Mine is also rebooting all the time. I have the same experience that the rebooting is increasing in frequense. Last weekend it happends 30-40 times per day. I called the SE-support and they asked me to reinstall the software. After reinstallation it was better for some days. Some rebots per day, but now after a week it's more frequently every day. I called them again and they have no answer and they also say that this problem is not a well known problem. In my office more or less all the employees have Xperia (different versions) and we all have this problem more or less frequently (since half a year!). This is a serious SE-problem and I will give my phone back to the seller if this is not solved within the next days. Sorry about that since I believe this phone, when it works, is the best ever had!

Hi, as what Sam has mentioned, it is strongly advised running a software repair if phone is rebooting itself without OBVIOUS cause. As most of us are aware, there are many possible causes, hardware, firmware and not forgetting downloaded apps. Probably first thing to check is those downloaded apps which is the easiest.

Do a software repair, let phone run without downloading any apps for a few days and monitor. If it worked perfectly without any frequent reboot, you should know what causes the rebooting (which lead you to the next tricky question, which app causes it?). If still the same, you can then decide to dump your Arc, it could be a faulty unit (unlucky).

The above might be troublesome and time consuming, but think again, it's still worth the effort than to strike off the Arc from your list!

But my Arc is 3 weeks old, I have done all the repairs you are talking about and have never downloaded any app... Interesting is that I had exactly the same problem with my SE P1 some years ago. Not as frequently as now bot still very often. Had a HTC 2 years without any of those problems, until I decided to purchase the new Arc.

Like I just said, it could be a faulty unit, 30-40 times a day (without installing any apps) is definitely not acceptable for a new phone.

You should consider sending it to your nearest SE Service Centre for warranty! Give your Arc another chance ....

Just side track, if you google 'android phone reboot', it won't surprising to see tons of it from different manufacturers.

i disagree. the problem where all google phone will also reboots will only occur if they're all using the same hardware, homescreen and installed apps. and this is definately not the case.

the scenario here is that it happens even after we refresh our phone. however, in this cae, i doub't that its the homescreen or mediascape, because i don't use both. its more likely one of SE's background task is causing a conflict at certain scenario and it causes the OS to crash and restarts.

Actually, you can say that its a faulty phone which comes in one every 20-40 units(which shows the bad production quality).but then again..its not only one person who is facing that problem..I too have faced that problem..and whenever it rebooted, i can see that the battery percentage dropped quite a lot, from 5%-10%..
I think SE should recognise this problem as well as other problems and try to come up with an update to fix it..

I guess if a software repair didn't help with the frequent reboot issue, phone should be sent back to SE Service Centre for a warranty repair (possibility hardware issue).

On the other hand, if it is due to some defect/badly coded apps (much difficult to detect unless you have the time), will be another question. In such cases, even a repaired/replacement unit won't help at all.

Anyway, the above comments are just my humble opinion :smileyhappy:.

This is just too much, thought that Arc will be better than X10 but it proved me wrong again. Sigh..... this phone is just 1 week old and it is giving me symptoms of 1 yr old phone. Maybe i can only blame myself for giving Xperia another shot. 1st was X10 now is Arc. once bitten twice shy... sigh.....

NEW INTERESTING INFO! When I called SE support last Wednesday they gave me one task to try out, which was to take our the memory card. I did and after that action I have not had one single rebooting session! If you have followed my input above you know that I had 10 to 40 reboots per day before I called the SE support, so I doubt this can be a coincidence, 6 days without any rebooting. However I can't use the phoce long term without memory card.

Please advise if you have tried formatting the memory card as this problem is likely to be corrupt data on the card given the explanation you have provided?

Me and my girlfriend both have Arc since a few weeks ago. My phone works fine, but hers begun rebooting randomly a few days ago. Tried using Update Service yesterday, no apps installed from Market, and also to take out the memory card, but it rebooted today again. Any clues to why this is??
